Usually on phpBB when somebody's a mod or admin, you can have something other than the usual "Moderator" or "Administrator".

Oh. I jsut thought that rank names would give this forum a bit more 'variety'. TPH could be even more uber than it already is.

IPB can do it, so I'm sure phpbb has some sort of functionablity in this area. Maybe it can only be done from the ACP, by asking protoman very nicely, but I'm sure we can all get them.
It's funny, I was just wondering about this yesterday...
Mine would probably be Hawtness McSexyPants or something stupid like that.

At one other PHP forum I go to, if you get enough posts you can have a custom rank name, so it must be possible. (it says phpbb at the top of the screen)

Another forum (http://rom-source.com) I go to has a 100% male population (except a few females which come and stay for a month or two, and then leave) and none of them minded.

I remember when one of the forums I go to, got hacked by some guy, and EVERYONE was made and admin. And a bunch of people gave themselves custom titles.
And I know invisionFree can do that as well. So I'm sure it can't be too hard to do.

only problem i have with giving y'all custom titles is that if i give them to some people, then i would be expected to give them to everyone, which i just can't do, assuming the forum continues to grow. sorry, everyone.

So... Make it so when they're a newbie, they only have a set rank, like "n00bius Memberius" sorta thng, but when they hit 100 posts (or something) they can customize their rank to how they want.
I dunno. I just think it'd be a cool idea, protoman. Is it possible, even?

Yes it is. I've seen it be done at other PhhPb (or whatever its called) forums I go to.

I have too, but those forums were hosted on phpbb sites, not a privately hosted server like TPH.

In Invision Power Board, under "Users and Groups" there is a subsections "Member Ranks" where you can set the number of posts it takes to get certian ranks, I understand phpbb is different, but since I've never seen the ACP on it I can't know for sure how much. Usually, in the options field for user groups there will be an bolean for allowing users to change thier rank.
Or, failing all that, maybe you could just give it to us cool members that've been here since the site was slow.

hmm, making it so people have to hit a certain post count sounds like a viable option. afaik, there's no way to do it automatically, so that way i could keep it down to a reasonable level. what do you think is a reasonable amount of posts to be allowed to pick a custom title? 500?

Well, I guess my 3-D is pretty good. But, not that great, really.
Sometimes I feel oershadowed by Swiftman's, Broom's, Kary's and Lacus's talents when i'm around them. Swiftman has his Gunstar Heroes/action game talents, and he;s a master at making people feel better and can teach a 3-D and 2-D drawing program very well. Broom ha smastery of strategy games and Metal Warriors, and Kary doesn't take crap from no one. I always have to take crap from people, and I'm not near as good as Swiftman or Broom when we start playing games together. Like when we hook up a bunch of computers with a LAN connection and we play Starcraft, it's mostly Swiftman and Broom that fight it out, and I'm usually ignored until one of them wins. I can't contribute to the battles they have, unless I make lots of marines and tell them to attack, that's about all I can do.

It's actually no surprise to me that Kagemitsu is so good at 3D programs. Swiftman knows the program very well, but can't make anything especcially good in it. Our towns Design Studies class is in the top ten in the country, and Swiftman gets good marks in it. If only Kagemitsu got into it, and had a proper teaching, he could make it his living after school. He certaintly has the potential to go that far.
Don't think of yourself as a minute person, Kag. Your best ability is your balance in many talents, and not focusing on one or two skills, like Swiftman or Broom. Many people wish for talent like yours (Trigger, for one.) You should be proud of it.

I can't do flash very well, I can't program, I can't make models, I can't write stories, I can't draw much, and I'm barely good at anything else. All I can do is play games, come up with scenarios that will never happen, and dream.
I get made fun all the time becuase "I have no life", by those who are close to me. And even more by those that I'm forced to be around.
Do you know how many times I wished I was good at something? Almost every day....It never happens. So if your happen to have a talent for something, don't let it go to waste.

And Kag, a majority of my skills are in video games. How can those help after I'm done school? You can make a killing with your autocad skills. You can make $70 an hour if you're good! Or, in 24 hours of work you can make $1200, and that's in the course of 2 days! (Unless you don't sleep) lots of people don't even make that in a 2 weeks, $1200. I say, if you like working with AutoCAD and Rhino, go to school for it. You can make more money than I could in my writing, or in Lacus's extreme brain skillorz. (We don't know where she's gonna go. She can do anything! [except run 30 kph and mow 3000 square feet of lawn in an hour. that's my shtick.)

and 500 choosen names but must be submited to protoman. So there's no loss of control, and crazy admins(not that Mr. protoman allready isn't crazy) JK! I got out of it, the custom titles thing, and no gatgirls, becuase its creepy, and thats about it.
But if its gonna go by 100 intervals, then I suggest a few more.
101-199 -- "Dancing with Glowsticks"
200-299 -- " Zellloooooooo!!!"
300-399 -- "Protoman Groupie"
400-499 -- "I am the Green Biker Dude, and I approve of this title."

Trigger's sig is different each time because some other site does that. it makes the image and puts it up like any other picture, but it changes.
Man, I gotta work for 500 posts.... Though I'm closer than anyone else. (I didn't even notice that I was past Protoman in posts for the longest of time. Imagine if Tiamat had posted as much as I had, since he was here practically as soon as the forum opened. [why doesn't he come back? His reputation has increased if anything since he last poked Bladegash.])
