Bitmaps are the waves to the image department. Excellent quality, but largely huge. Jpegs are way better, and they are easily converted to jpeg in MS Paint, the most basic of all image programs.

So please Morrigan, have mercy on my modem!

I say use PNG's.

Jpegs KILL the quality of the pictures, whil PNG's atleast keep them decent, and at a much smaller size. And if that doesn't work, get GIMP and turn all of them into Gifs so they'll be really small in size.

Wait... depends on which program you compress to jpg! paint comprass it like crap, though I love paint, I only convert files to jpg using Photoshop or PhotoimpactSE :) both makes files small and decent XD

and Gimp... I truly can´t use it, those floating windows in my desktop... waaaah!! >.<

I use Photoshop when I make banners and avatars. I did use Paint Shop Pro before though. Btw, what was the image size for a picture in the sign?

Trigger, could MS Paints jpeg compression be any worse than bitmaps?
And yeah, I use Adobe Photoshop Elements for practically everything except working with bitmaps (Since I use my 98 SE comp all the time, and MS Paint on it can't support anything but bitmaps)
But, for some reason, evrytime I make it a png, even a gif, it's larger than a lower quality jpeg. Why is that? Look at my war machine avatar there. That's a 9 kb jpeg, but it was a 13 kb gif and a 23 kb png. The heck is with that?

Maybe becuase it's like you said..."lower quality jpeg ;)

The better the quality, the bigger it gets. If you sacrafice quality for smaller size, Jpeg is the way to go. BUT if you want goo quality, and an alright filesize PNG is the good. But the best, by far, is a GOOD Gif. Decent size, and good quality.

I'm no expert really...I'm a totally newby to most things involving a computer. But as far as I can tell, there have only been differences with the colors when I turn a PNG into a GIF, when I use paint to do it. Otherwise I've never had changes with my colors.

But that may be becuase I don't have many pictures with more then 256 colors in them....
