Tetris is a great game... I even enjoy it more than.... dare I say... Mega Man? *gasps are heard all across the land*

I take Tetris over Maga Man anyday

Mega Man is amazing, but Tetris is my true obsession

My fav is Tetris the Absolute: the Grandmaster 2 Plus

Man, this forum is awesome, even though only a few people are in it. Everyone's favorite things are also my favorite things

I honestly play Tetris more...but I'd never stoop so low as to picking it over Megaman.

...although in all honesty I think I've only beat like one Megaman game on my own.

EDIT: By the way I want to take one of you on Tetrinet 2...just to see how I stand.

Just finished playing some more Tetris DX. I got 1045538 points with 493 lines. Still nothing compared to the scores I got years ago though. =(

I just bought a used version of DX the other day, I love it.
It has the same rotation sytem as Tetris the Grandmaster and it takes a while for the pieces to lock in. This means the scores are huge, especially since level 30 is the highest level and its not really that fast at all. And since you can save your progress and play later, I've been able to get 9,999,999 points. The songs on DX are kinda crappy though, but I like how it speeds up as your peices stack up

Yeah, I'd like to max out the lines some day. Too bad it only saves scores though.

Holy crap maxing out the lines could take forever, it would have to be like 9,999 lines i guess. As muchas i love Tetris, i think it would get pretty repetitive to just play he same session for weeks.

but imagine getting like 9,776 lines and then dying.

Tetris was a great game , but i've never gone over 400 lines

Post by: Herb on January 26, 2005, 02:53:43 pm
It is very hard to get over 400 lines in most games

But Tetris DX's top level is only 30 and it is still slow enough to play around with

The Grandmaster series is insane because the level goes up for every piece that is dropped. After 500 pieces, the drop time is instantaneous, and at that point the only way it gets harder is becuase the time it takes for the piece to get locked down is shortened.

btw if anyone knows of a place that has Tetris the grandmaster 2 plus for sale, pleeeez tell me

Isn't that an arcade game? Good luck finding that.

Yea Im determined to but it somewhere, but i cant even find a japanese site that is selling it :(

buying it isnt the problem, its finding a place to buy it

haha its funny how the tetris topic is more popular than the megaman themed forum

I want to find Tengen Tetris for the NES. But, due to copyright issues, Tengen (the company) had to scrap all cartridges. From what I heard, there was a versus mode for two players. Two people filling one board at the same time, competing for points, screwing over your partner, it sounded sweet. Very rare, though. Definetly in the top ten of rarest games ever.

Yea Tetris the absolute: The Grandmaster Plus 2 has that also

the screen is 14 units wide instead of 10

i need it

now

or at least somebody rip it to zinc or MAME

Lucky.

Here are two...well...blatantly illegal ways to enjoy Tengen Tetris away from your PC.

First, go to the mall and check those weird independent stands.  You'll find cheap knock-off pirate systems that plug straight into your TV and contain a lot of weird things like HK originals and game hacks.  They almost ALWAYS have Tengen Tetris...not to mention funky names like "Super Player Joystick" or "PSKid."

The second and in my opinion much more enjoyable way is with a copy of NesterDC.  NesterDC is as you probably know an emulator for NES on Sega Dreamcast.

The only reason I bother mentioning these two is because they both offer fairly nice "2-player" options since the pirate systems almost always have a 2nd joystick and Dreamcasts usually come bundled with one too.

And we all know how important 2-player is when it comes to Tengen Tetris's Magnum Opus...COOPERATIVE!

I like tetris, but it does get dull after a bit.

To me, Tetris is like an TV

it never runs out of ways to entertain me

I could understand the dullness of it, but somehow it never loses its polish for me

That's probably a good analogy for you, but TV programming seems to bore me quiet a bit.  Tetris is great fun for me almost always.

But I guess the games I play on the television are pretty entertaining.

I have a better analogy

Tetris does for me what Megaman does for all of us

There are so many variations (sequels), when you finally finish them all, you can start over and still enjoy all of them again!

I tried to relate tetris to sex, but sex doesnt compare. (only kidding.   maybe.   crap)

Tetris has always been one of my favorite games.  Sadly, I no longer have a copy-a guest who stayed in our home for a month or so when I was 12 stole my Game Boy and all my GB games...Tetris included.  :(

My fiancee recently got a used copy...think I may have to borrow it again...yeah, borrow....

Tetris is awesome! I've never picked up a variation and said "Aww... Another Tetris game?" I can play Tetris forever.

I have Tetris 2 for the SNES... I might make that my next line-in recording project.  It's got some nice music, and it's fun :)

Actually, come to think of it, when I went to pick up Mega Man Anniversary Collection, Tetris Worlds for GCN was hanging out next to it, and I had a hard time deciding which to buy. Mega Man won out, of course.

thats good

tetris worlds is only cool for so long (and this is coming from THE BIGGEST tetris fan) i just couldnt enjoy as long as i enjoy TGM or tetris DX. the musics alright i guess, and a lot of the modes are cool, but the timer system and level change isnt too cool

Hey, anyone who liked Tetris should pick up Meteos for the DS, it's not exactly like tetris, but it still kicks the pants out of stabbing your eye. Seriously, buy this game!

by legit i meant "if it sounds good and is nicely made" because IN THE GAME the music never starts out cool until you start doing good, then it blossoms into orgasmic tunes *is not gay* and i wanna see how the soundtrack manages the music

btw, its an 2 CD OST, which is awesome b/c i didnt think there was a soundtrack until last night

Pfftt... heh, Q? worked on Lumines and Meteos. Well, some of these songs are pretty cool, and after seeing some videos, I might get a PSP just for this...

man, that lumines stuff is cool, but i probably won't host it on tph, just because, well, if you can get it somewhere else, why host it on tph? i'd kind of like most of the stuff here to remain "unique" stuff that wouldn't have anywhere else to go, especially considering that the torrent bandwidth is limited, so it would be taking away from more important stuff.
