I have a keen interest in Outer Space, but I don't really want to be an Astronaut. :| Due to all the dangers that occur in Space. Like, drifting far into Space, even if we have training for that, electronics going outta control and such, or having your rocket explode! :shock: But still, Space is pretty cool, but I wouldn't want to go THAT far away from home! :) What about you guys? Would you guys go to space? Not me though. :|

I'd like to go to space, yeah! But I'm not sure I could go on a EVA. I mean, just looking off into the distance seeing all that nothingness I might end up drifting though... and if I'm looking at Earth, I'd probably crap myself. Talk about vertigo! But I'd still like to try it sometime.

If I'm in a stable craft, like the Pyro-GX, then sure, I'll go anywhere I wanna. In some experimental craft though, I wouldn't risk it.

The thing I dislike about space is its vast emptiness. I mean, it supposedly stretches on for nearly eternity. Heck, we're nowhere near exploring 1/3 of our own solar system.

Dude, that's why they call it distance. You never know when you'd make it somewhere. Like, if you were to go to Mars, it'll probably take a year, Uranus would be 23 years, and Pluto, pphhhh, you have NO idea how long. :shock: You'd probably need like, the world's fastest rocket ever to reach the planets on time and such. But look on the bright side, at least you got the stars to entertain you while you're on your journey.

With massive distance needing to be covered for space travel, the main problem is kind of dieing along the way. I think cryogenic sleep, ala 2001 a Space Oddesy, would be the best method for flying to other star systems.
Just my thoughts, anyways.

It's a bio of the Earth, but above it is the star animation. It's like the classic screensaver, but it's pretty entertaining. :) In fact, you can move around using the cursor! Cool, huh? :) You need Java to use it.

Yeah, I mean, have you ever heard of Monkeys being sent into space before humans? Unfortunatly, it was bad for them, cause they've died along the way and never returned to Earth! :shock: But one monkey managed to go on a journey to deep space and manage to make it back to Earth! :D After that, the first humans were launched into space. Pretty cool, huh? But those poor monkeys though... :(

Of course there isn't breathable air in space, but there is still temperature. No human in our lifetime is gonna make it far in space b/c our technology blows. After Jupiter, each planet's distance from the Sun about doubles. The closest supposed blackhole is at our galaxy's center, which is a rediculous distance away.

And yes, it is cold in space. It's called absolute zero, which is approximately 300* F colder than freezing point of water I think.

I think absolute zero is about -269 C, I THINK. I'll ask my chem teacher today.
But as I learned, the faster you go in space, the more power is needed to go faster. If it's a very small ship, it's easier to make it go uber fast. That's why I like the Pyro-GX so much, because it's positively tichy, and has big freaking engines. With the proper kind of engine [I propose Hyperthrust, ala Master of Orion] it wouldn't be hard to make a small ship like that to go really fast. Something like the Discovery in 2001: A Space Oddessy would have to have a lot of freaking power to make any sort of speed increase.
But even if we reach the infestimal speed of light, it would STILL take 4 years to get to Alpha Centauri.
Then Warp drives come into play..... Me and Kaiser had a big discussion on these once. The way some have been displayed to working is that it bends space, so that the two points you're travelling to are moved closer together, but how can that be done? Bending something THAT big and huge would take, like, the Power Cosmic.
But I'm sure Lazlo has all kinds of theories on Warp Drives, being as knowledgeable in Star Trek as he is.

Oh, and space is not at absolute zero. If it was, space travel would be impossible, because all matter would freeze. Outspace is roughly at -20 degrees C. Space is not a true vacuum.

Let me just say, I'm not a Trekkie. I like Star Trek, but I don't even own any action figures. Kay? Now, I read in Popular Science about how warp drives work(yes, they can build them), they do bend space, but not the way Swift said. The bend the space in front of you so that it is smaller than the space behind you, propelling you forward. At least, that's the simple way of describing it. I don't remember the "facts." We have the technology to do this, or, at least, our technology is advanced enough that we could build the technology to do this. However, it would take more energy than we can produce right now.
Also, Swift, it is impossible to reach the speed of light, as we near it, light would begin to travel faster, and your ship would appear to travel slower. Special reletivity for the win.

Imagine, if you will, everyone in TPH, on a Discovery like journey to Jupiter....
Like in 2001, some may have to be cryogenically frozen while the a couple of them stay awake.
The main computer is the LAZ-9000, the most perfect computer ever made, and has every single F-Zero GX song in it's memory banks. It can understand sign language, but not lips. [just in case]
Rob Falconi, since Laz is a taken name now, will be the techy guy. he knows just how every piece of technology on the ship works, and how to fix them.
Argus Swift is the main mechanic and technology operator. He can go into the pods to inspect the outside of the ship and else things with great skill, or if he wants to just do a small reconiscience mission, he uses his Pyro-GX to fly out to the intended spot, but for a short time only, the Pyro-GX can't hold that much oxygen.
Genin Jehuty can sneak into the mainframe of the comptuer and work the LAZ-9000 from the inside of his mainframe. He can also use remote controlled Jehuty mini-mechs for unmanned close range exploration or outside repairs.
Byte, as he is solely known as, can work any software on the computer that will be needed, and can make any new programs as he sees fit.
Nightmare X is there soley for moral support by making others feel superior, since he will be wearing a clown costume at all times.
Antha is the one that can keep track of all storage needs singlehandidly, with little help, and can make everyone else feel ebtter through humour or other means. Her assistant, Jody, is the one that can get the job done, either by herself or forcing someone else to do it. They are the ones that manage all tasks undertaken by all the crew.
Protoman, or Nate, is the commander of the mission. he leads with style, influence, and skill. No one ever doubts his word, for his intellect is a shear indicator that he is an extremely able leader. His 'gestapo' [sp?] of sorts, Bladegash, is the one that maintains control when tempers flare. He is the near entireity of the local law enforcement.

Maybe..... AH! The doctor! When in a closed enviroment like a space ship, you gotta keep all diseases to a bare minimum. You have to inspect people daily, to mkake sure that they aren't getting sick. Also, you have to watch the people in the Cryo bays, to make sure that their bodies are stable while being frozen.

I'll be the guy incharge of communications at mission control on Earth. I make sure to mainitain communication on both sides, and to booste moral by setting up communications with the crew members and their families that they left behind (apply where necessary).

In the 22nd century man has expanded out from Earth, establishing colonies as far out as the Antilla colony orbiting Jupiter. The inhabitants of the Antilla colony and others living at the end of the solar system are referred to as "Enders" by those occupying the inner regions of Mars and Earth--a word with connotations similar to "country bumpkin". But when an attack force of orbital frames from the independent military faction Bahram attacks the Antilla colony, a young Ender called Leo Stenbuck is thrust into the melee. After witnessing the deaths of his friends at the hands of a giant red frame, Leo stumbles upon a prototype frame called Jehuty. The onboard computer ADA explains that Jehuty is the reason why Antilla has been attacked, and Leo must deliver it to the transport ship Atlantis waiting to deliver it for use on Mars. As they struggle to get to the Atlantis, Leo and Jehuty must battle through hundreds of enemies and save the colony--home to thousands of innocents--from annihilation. Along the way, ADA must teach Leo the skills he will need to become a competent frame runner and complete his mission, and Leo must strive to teach ADA about humanity--respect for life, love and sacrifice.

Dingo Egret is minding his own business, investigating a hidden power source Metatron, when out of the blue his mining team is ambushed by BAHRAM. He discovers that the source of the Metatron is actually an abandoned battle robot, Jehuty (as used in the original Zone of the Enders), and decides to use the machine against the BAHRAM. Dingo soon realizes that there's more to the story then simply wanting to own a powerful machine, as treachery and evil power comes into play. It's up to Dingo to control the Jehuty and destroy any plans the BAHRAM for evil purposes, at whatever cost.

Its far away... my physics teacher just mensioned how far it was.... I think its somewhere around 1-4 lightyears. Closest srtar is the sun.
Anyway on topic I'd love to go into space if the risk were lessened, but I wouldn't want to go too far. Because even if I got to ride in a space craft that moves at 99% the speed of life, and since time is relative, it would be possible to move some really large distances in my lifetime, when I got back the world would have progressed by years(possibly hundreds or thousands depending on the distance I traveled).
But if I ever got pissed off at the world I'd go far enough that when I come back everyone would be old except me! TAKE THAT SUCKERS!

Depends on how deep you go into the atmosphere, but as you go in, things become brown, ahead of you, all you see is brown, behind you, you see brown, and some stars that fade fast. Eventually, you go in deep enough that all you see is pitch black. At the center, you get to a point where the atmosphere is so thick, it is actually compressed into a liquid. There is no "surface" of Saturn, unless you count that liquid.

Actually I remember reading about how some scientists believe there may be a small solid(iron I think) core.
Oh and about the spot, there are alot of different hurricanes on the surface of jupiter all of them lasting for hundreds of years. They swallow up each other and grow. There is also a storm on neptune called the dark spot.

Don't argue with me about this, I got really into space when I was younger, and read alot of books on this type of stuff. Venus is close to Earth in size, but its not quite as big.

I read that entire thing. So, I know you're misunderstanding it megakev.
See, it talks a lot about how relative distances are, these new planets they're discovering are about the same distance from each other and their " Solar Body " that the Earth is from our Solar Body, the Sun. That article doesn't say anything about a new planet being found in between Earth and Jupiter, sorry.

Ohhhhhh I see. But then again, have you heard of the wobble theory? I watch the science channel, dude, and I heard something about planets orbiting other stars. Those planets are called Extrasolar planets, since they're probably not in our solar system. But then again, the search for extraterrestrial planets, or life in other planets, continues... :|

Yeah, it's pretty easy to misunderstand it. I read it the first time and almost thought you were right, but I really had to read out what they were saying.
As for the search for extraterrestrial planets, I think they're more concerned with hospitable, Earth-Like planets. While these may contain other forms of life beyond our own, this certain team looks for Habitable planets that have things in common with our Earth.

But my one Englidh teacher, who is an astronomy buff, has this program where you can cruise through the entire universe. Not the solar systems, but the stars. [and the local solar system of Sol too.] It's a nifty program.

That would take even longer! For all we know, the Voyager spacecrafts are still leaving us! So far, they still haven't reached the heliosphere! :roll:

I heard about that too, Kev.
The "New Horizons" as it's called is basically a massive fuggin' rocket with a piano-sized camera pod at the tip of it. It can travel an estimated 20 kilometers per second, or to the moon in 9 hours. [took the Apollo's 3 days to get there, but the New Horizon's is getting there in 20.]
The intended purpose of the New Horizons is to do a fly-by of Pluto, taking pictures as it goes by. [better hope for a real good flash, since the sun looks almost like a normal star that far out.]
The estimated travel time [that I've heard] is about 14 years, in which case there will have to be some massively correct time calculations in order for the New Horizon's to take the pictures. It takes light 3 or so hours to get to Pluto, and that's as fast as radio commands go. So, if NASA takes a live-feed camera link from the New Horizons, they'll be seeing what the NewHorizons saw about 3 hours ago, thus making picture taking pretty pointless, since the NH will have been long gone by then.
Yes, I'm an astronomy nerd. Suck it up, I love talking about space and space travel and stuff.

Whaddya mean by heliosphere, Kev? If you want to know, the Voyager has long left the solar system and is drifting out to, what we think, is Alpha Centuari. It'll take a LONG time to get there though, 4 lightyears and all....
