Where are we headed if this is us now?
« on: June 21, 2005, 12:47:24 pm »
There are times in my life that I realize how pitiful humans really are. Like when Sophih pointed out the 'time machine powered by imagination". (I really hate the feckin space bar on this school comp.) Another time is when Trigger pointed out that Nazi gay-camp. Just points in my life where I remark the pitifulness of out race.

Right now, is one of those times.

http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/06/20/news_6127866.html

I'm so disgusted I can hardly speak. I am, in no part blaming this on Blizzard. Even though they are 'indirectly' responsible for this sad news, but I say it was a fault entirely of the parents. "The infant was the couple's only child." really? I damn we hope so. When I become a parent, the kid comes first, then my wife, then friends, then anything else I think of. *hugs IBM Aptiva*

Let's see what you all think of this.

....I have alot of things to say. Unfortinatly, I can't sort them all out or even think of where to begin with them. And even if I had sorted them out, it would take for to long to say them all.

So I'll say what I can...

Humans are stupid....Very stupid.  And if they can't take responsibilaty for what endevors they undertake, they should be held responsible for the concequences.

That about sums up what I have to say.

I'm feeling rather the same way.

Biggest litote I've heard this month. I am in total agreement. People need to learn that their rich daddy isn't going to constantly be watching over them. While that isn't the case in the link, but it's the same responsibility issue. This kind of thing is the sort that makes me shut my door, plug in my NES and play Final Fantasy or River City Ransom for a few days. I may tomorrow afternoon do this, since tonight I have important plans and tomorrow I have an exam, but ocunt on it, tomorrow night I will be in my room, door locked and shut, window open (myroom stinks with no ventilation) and I will either be talking to people that aren't stupid or playing a good piece of nostalgia (maybe I'll take another hack at the Steltec drone....)

OHNOES!! T_T So cruel....

ANyways to answer your question in the Thread title...

Where are we going now? We're going to continue going in random directions of course.

With no Absolute reasoning, and no Absolute government we will never achieve perfection (which initself is impossible) or anything NEAR it. So we just continue going our own ways. We are the all knowing, dancing shit of the universe...or something like that....

it's kinda hard for me to explain what I mean, but I hope you get the picture....

What I meant more by the title is that if this is how pitiful we are now, then how are we going to be in 20 years? Rampant idiocies, I'm guessing. People blaming video games and comic books for everything. Well, count on one parent that's not ever going to count on the government for anything. I'll raise my children with a balance of work ethic, manners (not too many so they seem snooty) and stuff like that. I'll make a good kid. I was a fairly good kid myself, so I'll make one more for the world.

Damn, I got off topic there quite a bit.

Acually TIme for more offtopic ness. SPEAKING of People blaming VideoGames.

Check this out.

Quote from: "agentjr"
I've gotten over the topic of my last rant, so here's something new!

I was online today reading articles on www.thebestpageintheuniverse.com because I needed a good dose of awesome. So I'm reading on how Maddox was blocked by websense, and I thought it'd be funny to look at the Mothers against Maddox page again.

Look what I found a link to there: http://www.mavav.org
The Mothers Against VideoGame Addiction and Violence Homepage!

Now I'm intruiged by these morons so I read a bit.

VIDEO GAME violence is now an epidemic, and violence against women has become a black mark on the entire industry.

I am SO tired of this! People bitching about violence against WOMEN. It doesn't matter much when a man is blown to slimy pieces by a Rocket Propelled Grenade, but slap a women and you got these freaked out sandy vagina bitches gnawing your ass off.

Video games aren't just for "fun" anymore, the video game industry made a net income of $6.3 billion in 2002, surpassing even the movie industry.

Somehow people profiting off video games makes the them "Not just for fun anymore".

Health studies have found that even those casual gamers suffer from low self-esteem and self-pride compared to their athletic and more socially accepted peers in their same age group. Young gamers were found to be more likely to become lifetime gaming addicts and becoming social outcasts.

This is societies fault, not the games! People who play sports and are athletic tend to be favoured over the smart, kind, and intellectual people who happen to play video games.

Hardcore gamers never buy computer video games. Instead, downloading illegally copied video games or “warez” is the only method acceptable by the underground.

This is news to me. If all hardcore gamers download all their games, why are the companies who make the fucking things still in business? They probably just found a five person group of morons who do this and decided that's what the entire gaming 'society' is like.

A typical report card by a troubled video game player:
Computer Education-Excellent
English-Poor
Mathemathics-Poor
Science-Poor
Social Studies-Poor
Physical Education-Poor

I am a gaming addict. Very much so. Yet I happen to do good (or at least pass) in almost all of my subjects. Pre-WoW of course ^^. But maybe, just maybe, some people are not interested in every class their school has to offer? I personally find english to be a ton of bull (especially since they don't even teach you anything about english :doubt:. But no, it's the games fault.

Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games (MMORPG) is a digital escape from the real world for emotionally unhealthy and mentally unstable people. It is a place for computer enthusiasts and social outcasts to gather un-bothered and un-harassed by the realities of real life.

This pisses me off. They're pretty much saying that anyone who plays MMO's is a raving lunatic on ritalin and prozzak. And as for social outcasts, maybe they wouldn't be that way if people tried to accept them instead of bullying them and shunning them? Nah, it's the games fault.

Danger: Do video games make people violent?
Yes. What was once a debatable question, is now fact. New research has concluded that video game violence and behavior related violence are in fact closely related.

Now I have to admit, violent video games have desinsitised me to violence (to a degree). I see a movie and a guy gets blown apart, I laugh. But real violence? HELL NO. I do NOT like real violence. I can stand it, I can tolerate it (thanks to my violent games) but I sure as hell would not condone it (unless the person deserved it, and I mean REALLY deserved it). And just because two things are closely related, doesn't mean that one causes another ( see: http://www.newgrounds.com/lit/study.html ).

Danger: Do video games teach people how to kill?
Yes. When video games were linked to the Columbine high school shooters, a frenzy of new research was launched, in which, one team of researchers discovered that first person shooter games do indeed teach gamers with the basic knowledge of how to kill.

Wow! I never wou;ld have known THE BASIC KNOWLEDGE on how to kill without videogames! Damn, who would have known that putting a gun to someones head an pulling the trigger would kill them without the aid of videogames? And I don't remember ANYTHING about videogames being linked to Columbine, they're just using a tragedy to further their moronic cause. Now THAT'S evil.

Notice I said they judged the entire gaming society by a few morons. Why do us gamers need our own society? You don't want us in yours? Maybe that's why we're angry at you? Nah, it's the games fault.

And you ask them why they do this. "It's for the children!". I could say I'm going to burn down the pubic library, and as long as it's 'for the children' I'm good right?

And here's some of their awe inspiring art:

This chids life has been destroyed by video games (note the shitty glass effect).

Duke Nukem is one of the most badass characters ever to exist, and it is a shame that these 'mothers' can get a picutre of him and defile it in this way. I bet half of them aren't even mothers.

And it's always "Mothers Against (insert random thing here)". No one else in the world give a shit about problem except mothers huh? All those other people are out there raping each other and crashing cars into their own asses and it's up to the "Super Duper We Know What's Good For You" mothers march to save our sin sucking souls! Or SDWKWGFY.

I'm not gonna show you what my repsonse to that was. Waaaaaaayyyy too much cussing. Even for myself...

Some moms don't make good mothers. Don't they see: "Rated M for mature" If it says that, don't get it for your 12 year old kid! If you do, it's your fault, not the game's fault. GTA was made for adult game players (or atleast smarter ones that knwo that it isn't real)

More evidence for me to shut myself in my room. I know it won't solve anything, but it'll help me, at least. And as it turns out, I'm gonna need some good encouragment after tomorrow.

Encouragement? Why I have a good cure for no courage!

All you need is...

- 2 bags of 90 Size Pizza Rolls
- 2 2 Liters of Dr. Pepper
- Lots of Doritos
- And some cheesy techno

Then you put them all together, you dance and you have a party  with yourself, and whoever else is over there (in my case, just myself T_T). And just pig out. It soothes teh soul man.

That was an ad on TPH, Sophih? Woah. I sure hope protoman didn't approve it himself.

But, back on the problems of video gaems that are seemingly arising,  Brian Clevinger of 8-bit theater sumemd it all up very good.

Quote
Looks like Eidos is desperate to get some attention for a game without employing Lara. They must've heard that GTA Made You Do It, because their 25 to Life is the latest GTA-a-be that's got lazy, indulgent parents and clueless politicians worried.

Just wait until they see Saint's Row. But that's a discussion that'll have to wait for the next generation of killographic murderboxes.

What more do you want, parents? There's a rating system on the games now. Your only -- and may I say flimsy -- excuse was that you had no way of knowing what type of content might be found in a given video game.

Because lord knows you couldn't ask your kid. I mean, talk to your own child? About his or her interests? Being a part of your son or daughter's life? Crazy! Good thing you cried to the government instead. Now we've got that rating system you can completely ignore as if it was your kid.

I mean, seriously. They'll buy their twelve year old kids video games that simulate "realistic" violence and it's someone else's fault how, exactly? Would these parents let their kids wander into a porno theater with $50 and be surprised when they witness something as innocuous as Chitty, Chitty Gang Bang?

Of course not. You wouldn't let your kid within a mile of that place.

But when a video game box has "Rated M for Mature" plastered all over it, tells you what happens in the game on the back along with a couple screen shots, has a cover splattered in blood and a title like "Kill, Kill, Kill the Cops All Day Long", these mouth-breather parents throw their hands up in the air and lament to the government how can it possibly be legal to allow an industry to subsist entirely on chicanery and lies for no other purpose than to expose precious little Chandler Hunter Morgan to the 21st century's Clockwork Orange?

It's not like you're picking up a box that says Happy Sunshine Love only to find out that it contains a game that encourages you to skullfuck dogs and says things like All The Cool Kids Hurt Animals.

When precious Hunter Morgan Chandler gets his driver's license and careens off a cliff, are you going to sue the video games for having cars and cliffs that obviously trained your son to drive off a cliff because, "Everyone else was doing it, you get 10,000 points for a good explosion," or are you going to sue automakers for building cars that move forward? Hell, why not both! Awesome!

I think what bugs me the most about this tripe is that it's an argument built out of fantasy. And it's just the latest one. Is there a genetic timebomb inside of every generation? Does it go off at the exact moment the generation, as a collective or spirit right out of Planetary, realizes that its fate is not its own; that it's the next generation that'll keep the world running in the very near future? Does the sheer horror of that truth force them to imagine phantom threats to distract themselves from the inevitablity of change? Don't worry about the world you're giving to your kids, or that you've done nothing to prepare them intellectually or emotionally for the responsibility of running it. Worry instead about the comic books, the rock and/or roll music, the violent movies, and now video games!

"It's not my fault my kid doesn't know the difference between right and wrong, or fantasy and reality, it must be those darn video games I kept buying him in lieu of parenting."

That's wrong, first of all, Warcraft is a multiplayer game, you should bring the whole family instead of killing your children. What the ufck's wrong with them?
And as for the rest of that crap: Mother's are stupid. Not mine, and probably not yours, but as a whole, mothers are dumb.
If I see "Mother against" or "Families United Against" I just ignore it and write it off as smoething dumb.

Quote from: "Someone I found when I did a random google search for an article I read a long time ago"
This is apparently an excerpt from a pamphlet distributed by St Mary's Catholic Church (not sure which one tho, there must be dozens out there). I haven't been able to find an original source (it's possible that it was never originally published on the net or has since been taken down). So, it might be completely fake, but its just funny to read.

Is Your Child a Goth? Reform Through the Lord!

Listed below are some warning signs to indicate if your child may have gone astray from the Lord. Gothic (or Goth) is a very obscure and often dangerous culture that young teenagers are prone to participating in. The gothic culture leads young, susceptible minds into an imagined world of evil, darkness, and violence. Please seek immediate attention through counselling, prayer, and parental guidance to rid your child of Satan's temptations if five or more of the following are applicable to your child.

    *
      Frequently wears black clothing.
    *
      Wears band and/or rock t-shirts.
    *
Wears excessive black eye makeup, lipstick or nail polish.
    *
Wears any odd silver jewellery or symbols.
    *
Shows an interest in piercings or tattoos.
    *
Listens to gothic or any other anti-social genres of music. (Marilyn Manson claims to be the anti-Christ, and publicly speaks against the Lord. Please discard any such albums IMMEDIATELY.)
    *
Associates with other people that dresses acts or speaks eccentrically.
    *
Shows a declining interest in wholesome activities, such as: the Bible, prayer, church or sports.
    *
Shows an increasing interest in death, vampires, magic, the occult, witchcraft or anything else that involves Satan.
    *
      Takes drugs.
    *
      Drinks alcohol.
    *
      Is suicidal and/or depressed.
    *
Cuts, burns or partakes in any other method of self-mutilation.(This is a Satanic ritual that uses pain to detract from the light of God and His love. Please seek immediate attention for this at your local mental health centre.)
    *
      Complains of boredom.
    *
Sleeps too excessively or too little.
    *
Is excessively awake during the night.
    *
Demands an unusual amount of privacy.
    *
Spends large amounts of time alone.
    *
Requests time alone and quietness. (This is so that your child may speak to evil sprits through meditation.)
    *
Insists on spending time with friends while unaccompanied by an adult.
    *
Disregards authority figures; teachers, priests, nuns and elders are but a few examples of this.
    *
      Misbehaves at school.
    *
      Misbehaves at home.
    *
      Eats excessively or too little
    *
Eats Goth-related foods. Count Dracula cereal is an example of this.
    *
Drinks blood or expresses an interest in drinking blood. (Vampires believe this is how to attain Satan. This act is very dangerous and should be stopped immediately.)
    *
Watches cable television or any other corrupted media sources. (Ask your local church for proper programs that your child may watch.)
    *
Plays videos games that contains violence or role-playing nature.
    *
Uses the Internet excessively and frequently makes time for the computer.
    *
Makes Satanic symbols and/or violently shakes head to music.
    *
Dances to music in a provocative or sexual manner.
    *
      Expresses an interest in sex.
    *
      Masturbates.
    *
      Is homosexual and/or bisexual.
    *
Pursues dangerous cult religions. Such include: Satanism, Scientology, Philosophy, Paganism, Wicca, Hinduism and Buddhism.
    *
Wears pins, stickers or anything else that contains these various phrases: "I'm so gothic, I'm dead", "woe is me", "I'm a Goth".
    *
      Claims to be a Goth.

If five or more of these apply to your child, please intervene immediately. The gothic culture is dangerous and Satan thrives within it. If any of these problems persist, enlist your child into your local mental health centre.

I didn't know this, but I'm a goth. Go figure.
"Eats Goth-related foods. Count Dracula cereal is an example of this." I love this one.
"Expresses an interest in sex" Oh my gawd I'm  ateenager!
"Makes Satanic symbols and/or violently shakes head to music." I don't make "satanic symbols" but I do happen to headbang as a family experiance with my family, whenever Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" comes on the radio.
"Eats excessively or too little" What the hell does that mean?
"Requests time alone and quietness. (This is so that your child may speak to evil sprits through meditation.)
Insists on spending time with friends while unaccompanied by an adult."
I totally do that all the time. I don't want to be alone because my parents are oppresive cathaholics, but because I need to talk to Satan.
"Sleeps too excessively or too little." No comment.
"Complains of boredom."
"Associates with other people that dresses acts or speaks eccentrically." Because goths are depressed and eccentric. That's totally not an oxymoron.
"Frequently wears black clothing." Or maybe... just maybe, your child wears black clothing because, now this is going off on a wild tangent, but maybe they wear what you buy them!

Seriously, the world is stupid, so I just sit in my house, and read Nintendo Power, because I'd rather not watch CNN.
Soon to be a major motion picture!

haha this thread is awesome, im always getting more and more surprised about what parents complain about and how they dont take ANY of the responsibility.

now theres no way everybodys mothers are like this (maybe 1 in 150), but why does the media even waste theirtime listening to all of this crap? the same has happened with (in hopefully the right order) art, music, movies, and now games. whats next? probably the back of cereal boxes (ESPECIALLY Count Chocula)
