Title: When it comes to the Zelda series...
Post by: Monkeydog on January 01, 2006, 01:16:03 pm
Which is the best?

I say Link to the Past. It just had everything I'd ever want in a Zelda game, hard bosses, long dungeons, a huge world, and actually decent puzzles.
Close behind I'd say Link the the Past(DX or not). It was a little lacking, but the one thing that it had that I haven't felt in any of the other Zeldas, was it had actually fun puzzles. Zelda isn't the greatest when it comes to puzzles, same old shoot the eye or get the key...but this was so much better.
Windwaker would be next, it suffers from the puzzle thing...and...the most hated thing about it for me is the damn ocean. It just gets SOOO boring. It's vast, and has nothing to do in it. Morrowind suffred from this too, but usually you had the option of Slit Sliders and the magic guild at least. v_v
OOT would follow, I guess. This game was just too...ehhh...bland. Great game, but it's not the best. Just...yeah...

All the others, except for the CDI ones, were also great...but too lazy to talk about them.

LINK TO THE PAST

And for good reason too. Not only is it the very first Zelda game I ever played, I still love it. I used to have it on my SNES but it disappeared.

LttP was my first SNES game ever. ^^

Anyways, going back to what I said about OOT.

OOT and MM suffered from the same problem, the blandness. Which, sadly, I think is what is going to happen with TP. TP looks good...but...eh...just...well...doubting Nintendo is hard to do...

Link to the Past was definitley the best.

And why do people even consider the CDI Zelda games part of the series?

XD, Retro

Mine own fav is Zelda II. Again, my first Zelda, and I'm a sucker for awesome platform games. I dun like RPG's as much, and I hate puzzles. [hence why the lack thereof in Zelda II helped me to like it. XD]

Coming in second place would be Oracle of Seasons. The main qualm I have with that one is hte damn puzzles. I hate 'em, but the awesomeimity of this game made up for it.

Th-th-th-that's all folks!

Really, cuz all other Zelda's I played sucked absolute ass. [yes, I just COULD NOT tolerate Link to the Past. I hate it. {I think I should leave TPH now. XD}]

If you call the things outside LA puzzles, swift, you have something wrong with you.

Umm, Swift, Legend of Zelda is filled with puzzles.  You can't get through the game without solving at least one.

Favorite Zelda game? picking this is hard, very hard. But  OoT is my favorite. It is quiet hard to explain why, but really, It rises little above all the Zelda games, to the point that had it been any less fun, it would have been equal to all others.

<-- is Zelda fanatic

<-- Loves all Zelda games equally (OoT only a little more)

Whaddya mean by LA, Monkey?

Well...... Zelda II had a lack of big, prominent puzzles like the others did! Or something, that or they were way easier.

I still say Lufia 2 has the best puzzles. They're pretty original little puzzles, especcially later, some are (*^% hard though.

Link's Awakening and LttP.

OoT isn't as good as people say it is.

Also, WW sucked ass.

I had more fun with WW than I did MM or OOT.
Unless I was on the ocean...then...I just wanted to kill myself.

Man, you people just didn't know how to rock the waves!  I RAN WW like I WAS Link!  That game ruled!

...But LA was the second best for me, followed closely by a three-way tie of OoA/OoS and LTTP.

I thought  I was the only one.  I thought the game was peachy and all then they expect you to sit in a boat and look for islands the rest of the game.[/quote]

Finally, someone who enjoyed the game to the end. Everyone else I know hates the game except for my one friend, but I had to convince him to get back into the game and beat it.

My favorite will always be Lttp, that's for sure. It seems that the greatest games out of their series are the ones for SNES. Like Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Megaman  or  Final Fantasy.

While, the SNES had great mario games(Yoshi's Island kicked major ass), Super Mario Bros. 3 was the best, which is NES. Unless you want to count Super Mario All Stars. =/

I do like SMB3, but while that is true, I grew up with Super Mario World.

I grew up on Descent, and you can't even try to play that on an SNES.

To be honest (And on-topic) I liked the ocean in Wind Waker. I loved it. I'd grab the boat and just sail around, trying to avoid the islands as much as possible. I just loved it. But that's me, I love the open sea!

My favorite game, however, would definatly be Link to the Past. It was just so... gah! Starting from the very begining, you get the great cinematic story scene, telling you about the creation of the dark world, the seven wise men's seal, and Ahganhim! Then you start off with Zelda contacting you telepathically, and walk outside and it's raining. That was the first time I've ever seen anything like this in a game. Then you get a great first dungeon, not difficult, so you can learn the game, but still fun in it's own right.

And the music! It's so epic! The best score to a Zelda game ever (with the possible exception of Wind Waker). Just everything comes out to perfectly give you the emotion everyon in a given scene is feeling. The warm, peacefull Kakriko, that great feeling of adventure in the overworld! I couldn't get enough of the Lost Woods, either, what a great place! We also had the nervous, edge-of-you-seat Dark World dungeons.

Well, the whole Dark World itself was a great idea! A world exactly the same, yet completely different from the real world! A place where your inner heart showed through, where magic resided in the form of the Triforce! Trees that would talk to you, horrific creatures plaugueing the world, and then, at the center of it all, Ganon's pyramid!

I have actually enjoyed all the Zelda games that I've played. The only ones I haven't played are the CDI ones. My favorite would have to be LttP for the sheer challenge. TWW would have to be my second favorite. Why? Because of the continuity. The fact is, every Zelda game has appealed to me in one way or another.

My review on the first three.

First one: Very boring, all I have to say. @_@

Second one: BORING TO THE MAX! And it had glitches everywhere.

Third (Link to the past): Good, Loved it, very good game and it was a big game also, lots of twists.

How did the order of the games go again...? o_O

Legend of Zelda
Legend of Zelda 2
Link to the past
Orcarina of time
Majoras Mask
Oracle of Ages
Oracles of Seasons
Links Awakening DX
Wind Waker
Twilight Princess

Isn't that the order? o_O

That's how they were made, except Link's Awakening goes after aLttP.

Now, as for the actual timeline, it's more something like this

Ocarina of Time
Majora's Mask
Wind Waker
Link's Awakening/LADX
(I'm thinking Twiligh Princess will be here, but I'm not sure yet. I believe it has the creation of the Dark World in it)
A Link to the Past
Zelda I
Zelda II: Link's Adventure, or whatever the subtitle was called.

Your aware that SNES/Nes is made before N64...?

Zelda one and two come before Orcarina.

Or am I missing something?

I'm talking about a timeline of when the game's take place. You were right about what order they were made, though.

People need to realize this.

There is no official timeline for the entire series.  It's just like Capcom and how they're never going to explain why the X series makes no sense.

Besides most of the Zeldas feature different Links, like in Wind Waker you aren't the real Link, just a reancarnation, if you will.

MM is the sequal to Oot, as it says, Link went to search for Navi in the beginning of the game.

In most Zelda games you're just a reincarnation. However, based on a resonable paying attention to facts in the games, one can assume what I have said. Also, if you find the Book of Mudora on the internets, it has a fun possibility of how things may have happened in a timeline.

Wind Waker is, at the very least, hundreds of years after OoT and MM. It says this in the begining of the game, that enough time has passed for these events to become legend.
