I'm sure SY already knows which game I'm talking about.
Alien Soldier, for the Genesis. It's a game made by Treasure.
Nuff' said.
But just incase that isn't enough, here goes.
Alien Soldier for the Genesis has my pick for THE statistically best platform game EVER. [even most PSX ones, I think.]
The action is CONSTANT, NEVER is there a pause in it [save for when your score is added up] the music is poundiin' [volume in high quantities is highly recomended] the weapons are a little lacking, but in many cases, extremely good. The Buster, Homing and Lancer forces are really the only ones you need. The buster for the normal stages, the homing for penetrating most bosses defenses, and the lancer for uber damage on unguarded enemies that have their vulnerable spots open. [don't waste a Lancer shot. It takes a lot of energy to use even one, but HOLIO is it powerful]
The animation is.... flawless.... Each enemy is intricatly drawn, with many frames for every walking movement, and their explosions are a real treat to the eye to see. It's a real joy to run through the level, firing off the Buster force, watching every coming enemy blow up in a fiery explosion.
Enough good points. Bad things are very difficult to master controls [you can't really duck and shoot very easily] it's translated almost as badly as Zero Wing, not that it matters too much, since the story in and of itself is nonexistant anyways, it doesn't make a lick of difference when you play the game anyways.
In other words, if you like frantic, pulse-pounding sidescrolling action, then Alien Soldier will be JUST the ticket.
Need a quick link to a rom? Click 'ere, then go to where it says 'Alien Soldier (E) [!]' and clickeroo, done and done deal. (http://www.emuasylum.com/index.php?page=roms&type=list&system=Sega%20Genesis&letter=A)

Because people piss me off, and they run from me due to proving them wrong.
And cause I'm always bored alot.
I'll download this game, and play it.
Ah. Good find Swift, bit of a hard game (Had difficulty on hard probably why @_@)

There's one thing you forgot to mention, Swift.
It was released only in Japan and Europe, so the ONLY way of buying it is pretty much off Ebay.
And let's say it's quite expensive. I'll let the link speak for itself

If you're lucky, you might be able to bid on it and get it for cheaper (around $60-$70 US)
Oh, and by the way, when you're playing the ROM be sure to change the system to US when it's loaded if you're playing the European version so it goes to the normal 60 frames per second instead of Europe's 50.

Not having a ROM system I can use just now, I think I'll just stay with what I have.

Here's a better link, just in case EmuAsylum gives you problems like it did to us...

Just thought you might like to try this color for CJ's lionks, and for Yami, Dark Red. Might be better, but do as you wish, it's cool either way.

Alien Soldier? Been there, done that, beat it, thrice, good game, needs more work on the controls. And actual stages that don't last 15 seconds.

Yeah, there's a reason I'd never heard of this one until digging around for Treasure info a little while ago.
Lousy non-NA releases. Terranigma (my favorite action-RPG ever, take that LttP) got shafted in a similar fashion.
