Title: sprite avatar question
Post by: Swiftman on February 09, 2005, 08:16:05 pm
I think Herb or Gemini man can answer this one.
Your avatar, unlike mine, has a transparent layer behind the picture, so it doesn't have a white border around it. How'd you guys do that? Mine has a big white background on it, and I don't know how to turn it off.
(Note: I don't have a bitmap program more powerful than ms paint. If paint can't make transparent backgrounds, then never mind.)

Thanks in advance.

Theres a gif program called Giffy and its a really good gif converter. It can even do your transparety needs. Just search it on Google, it should pop up. It evens make smaller files then the average gif converter

EDIT: Make sure your sprite isn't the same color when making the transparency by the way. Trying making any white colors you need a little darker

I use Flash for my GIFs and when you export there's an option to make it transparent, heh.  If you want, I can do it for you.

I used to have flash but when I reformatted, I have yet to re-install it. I used Giffy. Just load up a BMP or GIF and you can make it transparant. Its really fast and easy. :D

Can giffy make animated gifs? I have roughly five gif animator programs, but they either modify the image, are way too hard to use, make the frames go too fast for the human eye to watch, or they last only 21 days.

Thanks in advance.

No it can't unfortunatly.

Though GIMP can. Do you have that?

Well tell me which ones you have and I might be able to find something.

Nope, can't say I've tried GIMP. Should I google it or no?

And from what I recall, I've tried the following programs?: gif construction set, microsoft gif animator, and coffee cup gif animator. I had more, but I don't care to remember them.

Ok then. I use Gimp. Its alot like Photoshop from what I've heard. I haven't used Photoshop to know about it. But I'll give you a link to Gif animator tutorials over at Planet Mega Man.

Planet Megaman Gif Animator Tutorials (http://forum.planet-megaman.com/viewtopic.php?t=4231)
PMM Rikkus' Help Tutorials (http://forum.planet-megaman.com/viewtopic.php?t=271)

1st one)Quickman assembled as many programs as she could and started making tuts on them and how to make animated Gifs using them. Amoung them happens to be GIMP. So skim through it until you find it among the ones she did.

2nd link) These two really go hand in hand basicly along with Guantlets Tutorial. The second link is to a page containing information on what your looking for. Read through it, along with Quicks, and your good to go. GIMP download can be found here.
