Title: If you had Gates's money....
Post by: Swiftman on August 14, 2005, 04:40:45 pm
If you had sudenly acquired Bill Gates's money, what would be the things you would do with it?

With that much money, I'd buy some gifts, then fly to the following places:
Kyoto, Japan
Palmer, Alaska
Valparaiso, Chile
Cleves, Ohio
Sao Paulo, Brazil
King's Lynn, England
Sioux Falls., South Dakota

after that, a new laptop, a house for a particular couple or two, getting my own place, then I would fund research to makes mechs possible. After that, I'd invest some for myself and give the rest to charity. (particularily Cancer)

Now then, let's see what you're all gonna do!

I'd hire a jet to get everyone from here, and a few other places, together. Host the biggest party in the friggun world, that would last forever cause I'd buy them a mansion to live in. And the crazyness would ensue. And they could all live there, and have whatever they want.

Fund my Catgirl and Mech research.

Buy a house, and get everything a certain someone would ever need/want.

Then give out half the remaining money to charities/people I know. And retire and live a life that I would want to.

But as we all know, that ain't gonna happen...for awhile anyways..kekekeke....

I would buy a car, get the hell out of my house and drive to Ohio, buy an apartment there, make sure I had everything I needed, and the person I'm driving to Ohio for (=O), and just use the rest for whatever else I needed when I needed it. And since there'd be lots and lots and lots that I didn't need, I'd also donate it to hospitals or charity, probably both.

I'd use Bill Gates's money to create a bunch of zombies and set them loose upon the world for no reason. Ya know, what everybody does.

Granted it's invested properly so that it reduplicates itself biennialy (oh and I KNOW it is), I'd create my own internationally independent paramilitary operation against the East Asian slave trade so my skills could be put to proper use rather than employed for the loveless organizations they so often are.  Then I'd get a quiet home in the mountains above the Shenandoah Valley where I could live in peace with my wife, left alone by the world, having lived a satisfactory life of adventure, and finish writing my books.

The End.

Lemme see......

Use it to go around the world and meet all of my online friends.

Get a laptop so my chats won't have to be interuppted every 20 minutes by my mom.

I'd buy my father a house and get him out of that stupid apartment he's been stuck in ever since my mom divorced him.

Once I am old enough, a car, a nice house, college fund, some charity stuff. Give some to friends when they are in need of it.

Buy myself whatever the crap I want... Yeah...That's about it...

I'd kill X....wait BILL Gates, ha ha ha.  I wouldn't want it, with that much money....what's the point of really doing anything?  You pretty much lose the feeling of desire, you can buy your way through everything, not to mention being rich turns you into a snobby jackass.  Well, those're my thoughts.

Well, when I steal his fortune, I'm going to get a big ol' mansion, with a giant safe-room-thing like DuckTails. Then, I'd party there for the rest of eternity. I'd also buy blankets for homeless people. But mostly parties

I'd open my own arcade up, because there's nothing here for the kids. Im talking all out, i'd buy Donkey Kong, Galaga, and Burger Time, and stack em in there. I'd sell food there too, cause I make a mean burger, and I like to eat junk food when I play games. I'd Set up a jukebox that played updated songs, and game themes. Then whatever I had left i'd buy anything I wanted. Then give to a charity for abused children. Whoa, I need money.

And Lazlo, I mean the Punisher for CPS1. Totally badass and evil. Violence ahoy!

Set me and my family and friends up for life. Build a few buildings that would be useful for the area that I live in, go to college on that money, which would rock, and save me about 3 years of having to come up with a lot of money. Then donate most of it, and put some into savings for future generations of my family to use when they get older. ...wow, I'm boring. *shrug* Oh well. :)

You may be boring, but in the best possible way.
Oh well, I'm one of those friends that you'd "set for life," right?

Of course, you'd all be set, for your lives, and... enough for 2 lives acctually. That would be weird... I might buy another life. Do you think I could do that? You know, get enough coins you get another life or whatever?

If you're all going to be so charitous, do us all a favor and do some heavy work getting humans into space... alive and in large numbers.  On Earth, we're running out of room, food, resources, air, and, of course, time.  So being mean might be nice, for the greater good anyway.  Or there's the space option... then again you might just be polluting the universe with the disgusting vermin known AS THE TERRAN VIRUS HOMO SAPIEN!

Hmm.

Tiger

But there is little to no food, water, or air in space.  All those resources would have to come from earth and you would have to use more resources getting it up there.  It is more practical, and more environmentally friendly just to stay here untill we find a cleaner and safer way to go into space.

Post by: Tiger on August 17, 2005, 12:20:45 am
Are you insane?!  Well... being Skull I suppose you are.

I'll try to put it simply.  There are more types of "air" and minerals in space and the universe than humans could ever hope to consume before the universe collapses once again... which won't be for a few trillion years by my watch.  Anyway, humans need Oxygen, but the air we breath is comprised mostly of Nitrogen and many other elements besides.  Food is made up of different elements, that, like all things, are combined in different ways and in the proper amounts to provide sustainence for whatever organism feeds on them, so that whatever life exists can feed itself, and other organisms, excrete, reproduce, die, etc. as per natural function to keep the myriad webs of nature going along.  Long story short, space has all of the resources we need and more, they just aren't in the correct form.  Conversion isn't easy, but we're already capable of self-sufficient existence in hostile non-Terran environments for months and even years.  All that's lacking is the money, believe it or not.

There is absolutely NOTHING practical or "environmentally friendly" about humans remaining on Earth.  Unless we start so succumb to disease more easily, find permanently efficient ways to use resources, evenly distribute the world population and food supply, depopulate steadily to a self-sustainable level... humans will just eat and shit themselves out of existence.  Even continuing as we are now, we'll have serious problems before the century is out, but if we continued this way we won't last the mellinium.  That won't happen, though, because when a problem comes along that must be dealt with or face extinction in the near future, humans tend to fix it... but just a little.  Not enough to actually fix it permanently because that would "take up too many resources and cost too much money to ensure the existence of future generations", and so mankind hobbles along through the centuries.  How long will it last, I wonder.  I hope not long... I'm pretty disgusted by it, even if I have to go too.

Zaijian,
Tiger

Very good points Tiger.  But inorder to due much of that, we would need the technology first, which we don't really have.  We can re-process human waiste into drinkable water and process CO2 into breathable air, but processing food from various elements is very difficult.  And finding many of those elements outside of earth, within our own solar system at least, would be rather difficult.

Our best bet for survival would be to recreate self sustaining ecosystems throughout the universe outside of our own worlds, but that process would take centuries, maybe even a millenium or two, and from what you have said, it doesn't seem like we have the time.

From what I can see, we are already doomed.

Our solar system is abundant with the same resources and elements we have on Earth.  The whole universe is.  Everything is made up of those little symbols on the periodic table everyone's studied so diligently in high school chemistry.  The trick is getting to them, and staying alive long enough to turn resources and elements that exist in very different temperatures and pressures than they do on Earth into something we can use.  We do have the technology, but as I said, we don't have the money or willpower.

After all, if oil companies are willing to bomb the home or sabotage the research of a scienties/inventor/development team working on renewable energy sources -- because let's face it, fuck our grandkids, as long as my company makes it through the day with a few extra c-notes in our pockets, right? -_- -- we'll likely never do it until it's too late, or just hobble along still, like we do now, barely hanging on, just getting worse and worse.

I'll agree with you though, we are already doomed, and it would be better to clean up Earth and depopulate humans than anything else.

Zaijian,
Tiger

P.S. - Sadly, we aren't capable at this time of propelling anything, not even a probe or satellite, to to any star or solar system beyond our own.  So we have millions miles from our sun to Pluto, but stars are parsecs or and  light years apart, even in our own galaxy.

Voyager is still floating out there somewhere though.  I seriously doubt it's functioning, however.
