Title: Mega Man X Collection
Post by: neothe0ne on January 07, 2006, 07:31:19 pm
IGN rates it a 7.0.  This is what they have to say:

-Their office loved Atomic Planet's MMAC (....)
-The MMAC menu system is superior to the noninteractive MMXC menu system (...)
-The Mega Man original series is superior to the X series (...)
-Battle & Chase must be unlocked
-The SNES games will let you use the password system
-The remixed music "is great"
-There are some interlacing issues
-GCN has faster loading times, PS2 has better audio and video compression

To Capcom:  I don't think you get it about audio quality.  First you encoded Maverick Hunter X in 136kbps ATRAC3, which is equivalent to less than 128kbps MP3.  Now IGN comments on how PS2's sound is superior to GameCube's???!  I fear for the future of great Mega Man music....

About IGN:  You can't spell IGN without IGNorant.  No word on voice acting, bad opinions, and few facts to go with them.

Me and Yamino had a conversation about the same thing yesterday.

IGN sucks.  That's all ya need to know.

Which is why I disredarded their crappy review of Shadow the Hedgehog.  But that's a different story.

I actually saw this mentioned over at the MegaMan Network too, FYI.

The sad thing is that the game comes out in three days, yet we STILL have no word on which soundtrack each game will default with, what exactly is unlockable, the style of the remixes, whether or not X1-X3 got voice acting, whether or not X4 got redubbed, and whether or not X5-6 got translated.

$5 says they didn't bother with that stuff.

Well, look at that one screen shot from X6  in the review.  It shows INFINITY MIJINION's intro (note the caps).  In other words, I highly doubt they spent their time to make a good re-trasnlation.

That screenshot also looked like it came out of ePSX 1.4.1 lol

And by translation I meant the voice acting.

As long as they fixed X4's anyway...I've never played the game (due ONLY to my deep, deep hatred of all things PlayStation), but I've seen the cutscenes.  Mine ears have yet to recover from the gouging. ;_;

Sounds like a bad case of fanboyism to me.  Seriously.  Buy a PSX or something at least.  How much are they, $30?

At the very least you could of put your hands on ePSX and got/ripped an image of the game.

Yaminomalex: I'm not suprised at the rating it got. Most of the writers at IGN are bleeding vaginas with pubic lice.
SuperYoshi89: Yep
Yaminomalex: I mean X1-X3 had awesome graphics for their time, and even by today's standards they still amaze me.
SuperYoshi89: Yeah

And then you get all the reviews saying the graphics are decent... I've yet to read a review praising its graphics for its age, and also saying how the graphics are still good for today's standards.  They're certainly better than lots of GBA and DS games (cough cough absolutely horrid King Kong for DS cough)

lol, that's right.

GameSpy reviewed it and gave it a 4/5.  What they confirm for us is that X3 is the "32-bit version released in Japan" and that it has the PS1 music by default and is complete with (assumingly translated to English) anime cutscenes.  The reviewer longed for Mega Man Soccer one too many times, and it was short, but...

Post by: Superyoshi on January 09, 2006, 06:37:27 pm
Well, I'm sure they're using the English cutscenes for X3 (Only difference is removal of J-pop for the intro and ending, and the translations of the maverick names.  No words are ever spoken in the cutscnes).

And on Gamespy....

Developer:  Atomic Planet

This better be a typo...

It *should* be.  Last time I checked, it was an in-house Capcom project, unlike the Anniversary Collection.

It is.

The game was devloped by Capcom Production Studio 1.

Capcom no longer cares.  *cries*

-Removal of Japanese X6 voice acting
-No new voice acting

Why do I have a feeling Capcom directed their money, time, and energy to Maverick Hunter X?  It's not like it's going to sell very much, in Japan it probably broke records for lowest selling Capcom game of holiday season of all time...

WTF AT SNES SOUND EMULATION.  X1 is decent, but you can tell that it doesn't sound the same as the original.  Capcom used bad SPC emulation, my bet's on it.

But X2... THEY BUTCHERED IT.  My CELL PHONE can play MIDI's better than what's on the PS2 disc!

(Someone please tell me I'm wrong, and I'm just playing back the music on my computer incorrectly.. but let's just say they butchered nearly all the X2 music because the melody's instrument is shit)

non interactive menus aren't as good. . . lol

I HATE hate HATE the menus on MMAC, they take like a whole minute just to get to the game.
Title: Mega Man X Collection
Post by: neothe0ne on January 15, 2006, 05:21:37 pm
Actually, on further inspection, I'd say that almost every track in PS2's X Collection has its left and right audio channels split.. at least I hope so.  The two versions of certain songs like Flame Stag are so different and appear to complement each other that if only one of those channels was used, the music would be complete crap.

Superyoshi, can you confirm whether or not Flame Stag's Stage sounds the same as the original, just with some compression artifacts?

Here's what I've done so far.

X1- Completed.  All armor, hearts, and subtanks, no Hadoken
X2- Completed.  All armor and hearts, three subtanks, no Shoryuken, did not collect any of Zero's parts
X3- Completed.  Gold armor, no Z-Saber
X4- Completed.  X's game, all armor, hearts, and subtanks
X5- Completed.  Played the gaming using X only, 11 hearts and all armors including Ultimate Armor with no code used.
X6- Just started today. So far I only beat Blaze Heatnix, Commander Yammark, and Blizzard Wolfgang...kinda makes me pissed seeing as I just beat most of the game besides Gate's stages a month ago, I'm not exactly in the mood to do it again :\

And that's all I've beaten so far. I don't know what unlocks what. All I know is that I unlocked Battle and Chase once I beat the first 3 X games. I checked GameFAQs and what I unlocked was a little different than what they said. One of them was X2, and I'm pretty sure it was cause I didn't bother getting Zero's parts (I never do anyway, as I like fighting Zero).

I would MUCH rather get Megaman Legends, Spartan: Total Warrior, Katamari Damacy, We <3 Katamari and Castlevania Symphony of the Night before this. I mean, I've already played most of the X series, who cares what console I do it on? I know I don't.

Okay, I got it and all.

Wow, I suck at Mega Man X2, bad. XD

In number one, I managed to beat Storm Eagle, Chill Penguin and Flame Mammoth, plus get the dash, helmet and armor upgrades in about 40 minutes in the first game.

I <3 Metal Shark Player's stage. That trash compcator makes my randy.
