General Games / Help on findong a game
« on: May 29, 2005, 11:52:14 am »
Me, Broadus and sideburnzy (from another forum) have been searching for this game. Here's the post on it: http://www.fantasyanime.com/forums/thread.php?threadid=770&boardid=8&styleid=1&sid=8c8381fb9cf4c895ba9e7f72b646ee0f&page=1#14

If Broadus can't find it, I don't think many can find it, but we're getting closer.

any hints on this game will be greatly appreciated.

General / A story I've worked on!
« on: May 27, 2005, 07:56:46 pm »
This here is a story I've worked on for a wee bit of time. (eg: Since winter of '04) and I hope to publish this someday, so I was wanting some constructive critisism or something.

This is not the whole story. The whole story is 123,000 characters, which is probably more than TPH could handle..
Just a taster for those who care enough to read it!

"Good afternoon, Deccus. I knew I could trust you in coming here."
Deccus stood up. He has been sitting for awhile, so his legs were slightly stiff and he wobbled a little, but maintained his composure. He was addressing the General, after all.
"Yes, sir. I always keep my word. I agreed to be here, and here I am."
"Good. Then I have an assignment for you. I need you to command a small force and take over an enemy outpost on the outskirts of their territory. It's far enough from their headquarters that they probably won't retake it."
"How large is my force, sir?"
"It consists of five soldiers, including you."
   "What? That's a nothing troop!"
"I assure you, they are very well trained in what they do. They're waiting for you at the Academy, ready to leave when you need. They're all in dorm room five. Go meet them, get to know them, and finish your assignment. One of the soldiers knows how to get to the target. Return here after you're done."
   "But..."
   "GO!"
Deccus left without a word of objection. When the General tells you to go, you go, no questions asked.
Deccus stepped out of the head building and blinked from the sudden change of light. It's always so dark in there. The General never showed his full face, for fear of spies finding him when he went home. The fresh coat of snow seemed really bright in the noon sun. Regardless of the weather, he headed for the Academy.
Deccus walked through the city of Vahal, a town surrounded by a thick, high wall. There were food stores, weapon shops, suburbs, almost everything you'd expect in a city.
If it weren't completely populated by children.
This didn't surprise Deccus in any way, for he was only a child of twelve years himself. There was no one over fourteen in the town. The wall around the city was composed of only densely packed snow around a wood foundation, since the engineers here didn't know how to mix concrete. It stood over 10 feet high, and a meter thick. Soldiers walked on top of the wall, armed with Snowthrowers. They were basic infantry, only ten years of age. Since Deccus was older, he was a bit more advanced than the standard unit. For one, Deccus had thicker armor. He also had a shield, which clearly marked him as a 'Shield Joe' unit. He wasn't an average Shield Joe, however. He had a much more advanced gun. Instead of holding a small hand-held Snowthrower, he had an S-buster, which enveloped his entire hand and had a com unit built right in. Usually com units were separate walkie-talkies, but not Deccus's. He made the gun himself, as with his outfit. No one had a second glance at Deccus. They were all busy, or they didn't care. Most soldiers made their own outfits, so no one criticized any one else's. Except for the Bunny Boy. Rumor was he was bugged to the brink of insanity, and ran away from Vahal before he graduated from the Academy. Ah, the memories Deccus had at that place...
He arrived at his destination before he realized it. He entered and paused, looking around.
It was exactly as he remembered. From the fountain in the middle of the entry hall, from the four huge stairways leading to different destinations in the massive building.
Deccus took the stairwell that led to the dormitories. The amount of times he took these stairs...
He chuckled. He was only a child, yet he thought like an adult, thinking of past memories in such a way. He felt rather old, as well. A child shouldn't have to feel this way.
He found dorm room five rather quickly, since it used to be his friend Holly's room. Deccus opened the door and entered.
In the room were four people, doing various tasks. Two people were playing cards on the table, one losing badly. Another person, whom Deccus recognized immediately as Holly herself, who was leaning against the wall watching the card game with low interest. The only other person in the room was sitting on the window sill, drawing something on a notepad.
"I never expected you to be the commander of this mission. At least you haven't changed since our school days."
Deccus turned to Holly, who had addressed him. "How haven't I changed?"
Holly was wearing tight armor, red with black trim. Deccus had never seen it before, yet it looked good on her. She didn't have a helmet on, so her pony-tailed brown hair hung down past her shoulders. She had a small backpack on, but Deccus didn't know what was in it.
She walked up to him and hit him on the chest with her knuckle, making his armor rattle. "You're late."
"Sorry if the General took longer than expected."
"That's the same excuse you used when you were late for class."
   "Well, it worked then..."
   "Hey! Lovebirds! Shut up!"
The soldier that was losing at cards had yelled loudly to stop the bickering. Lovebirds? Deccus thought.
The angry soldier was dressed in black armor, black helmet and black boots. It seemed to reflect his mood perfectly.
The silence was broken by the person on the window sill. "Thank you, Kaeden. That will suffice."
   Kaeden grunted and sat down.
"Hello, captain. I don't believe we introduced ourselves properly. I am Kleth." He stuck out his hand. "What's your name?"
Deccus shook Kleth's hand. The hand bore fingerless gloves, made of leather. Kleth wore a light coat and boots, with numerous tools hanging from his belt, and a full looking backpack filled with who knows what. "I'm Deccus, your commander for this mission."
Holly spoke up. "If you can keep your mental stability for more than five minutes, that is."
"Don't read too much into what she says, Kleth." Deccus whispered to his companion.
"I've inferred that from the five minutes that I've known her. You look more than adept at commanding our squad." he replied intelligently.
"Thank you. I don't seem to know the character behind you, though."
Kleth glanced behind him and looked back. "Oh, yes. That's Ted. He's rather quiet, so we don't know him at all well. Kaeden seems to know him good, though."
"That's cuz he's my neighbor." Kaeden replied loudly. "I've known him since before the Academy."
Ted nodded a hello and started packing the cards. He had a navy-blue down filled coat and a toque on, with a face that clearly said he wasn't much a person for talking.
"I won’t pressure him." Deccus looked to the rest of the group. "What are the details to the mission?"
"The fortress we're to surmount is poorly defended." Kleth said and laid his notebook on the table. It was a drawing of a small outpost, drawn in perspective. "If we use a divide and conquer tactic, we can conquer this obstacle with relative ease."
"Divide and conquer? From the looks of it, there are only three fighters in this group!" Deccus exclaimed.
"Maybe. I'm a Systemator, so I do technical support. Receiving messages, sending and intercepting messages, repairing stuff, things like that. Kaeden is an Elite unit, with a bazooka-like Snowthrower, and such making him lethal on the battlefield. You, as a Shield Joe can defend and attack simultaneously, making you very capable of the assault. Holly is a Snow Fox unit, so she can attack rather deftly with her heavily modified Snowthrower."
   "What's so modified about it?"
Deccus was then hit with a cloud of snow. He was partially buried in snow from Holly's Snowthrower. He came up sputtering.
   "Wha- ph- was that?"
"Instead of packing the snow into one projectile, like Kaeden's, it focuses the snow into a continuous stream, like a real flamethrower." Kleth described the weapon in Holly's arms, consisting of a thin gun connected to a pack on her back.
"Don't we have a mission to do?" Kaeden said loudly.
"Right. We should go." Kleth walked out. Everyone followed.
The first half hour of the trip was spent in silence. Kaeden broke the placid scene by asking when lunch was, but was silenced by a sandwich from Kleth.
It was a two hour hike to the mission target, but only the first quarter was quiet.
“You know what? We should talk, get to know each other better.” Kleth said while hopping to catch up. “Better knowledge of your comrades is proven to lead to better performance on the battlefield, you know.”
He was hushed by a grunt from Kaeden, but Holly came to his rescue. “You know, he’s right. We should talk about each other more. Deccus, tell everyone about yourself.”
   Deccus hesitated. “What? Why me?”
“Because, you’re the leader. They always go first.”
“Fine.” He sighed and began to speak.
“I was raised in Alberta, Canada, in a town that you’ve never heard of before. I was fairly average. Good grades, a few friends, things like that. My parents heard about the problem up here, and I was drafted for the Snowcraft force. They thought it would be a good experience for me. I met Holly at the Academy and we became friends, mostly because of spite. After I graduated when I was ten, and I fought on the field for two years, rising in the ranks up to Valiant status, due to my assistance in numerous missions. I was called to meet the General, and here I am. I’ve never seen Holly since graduation, so I was surprised to see her here.
   “Now, how about you, Holly?”
She launched into her story immediately, not surprised by Deccus’s haste.
“I was born in a farming community in Colorado. I had eight brothers and no sisters, so it’s not a surprise that I don’t act that feminine. My parents wanted me to meet other girls my age, so they sent me here. I was already strong from farm work, so the training here was nothing. The only one that could compete with me in the physical department was Deccus, so we always competed for first. He beat me in the end, and thus that’s partly why he has Valiant status and I don’t. Not that I’d care, but I’d like to beat him at something. I was told to talk to the General, and I offered to use my old dorm as a meeting room, you all came along, so now I’m hiking with some idiots.”
“Hey! I’m not at all unintelligent!” Kleth stormed.
“I said some, Kleth. Not all of you.”
   “Oh. That’s good. Who’s next?”
No one jumped at the offer.
“Fine. I’ll go.” Kleth cleared his throat and spoke.
“I was actually born in the town of Vahal. Believe it or not, my parents were only ten when I was born.”
“WHAT!?” Everyone was completely caught off guard.
“Isn’t it impossible for someone so young to have kids?” Holly seemed genuinely worried.
“Of course not. The youngest couple to have a child were nine years old, so my parents weren’t special. If being raised in this climate doesn’t make a person resistant to cold, I don’t know what does. Of course, I was drafted at the Academy when I was six. I never was good in the physical department, so I compensated by training my mind to the extreme. I graduated with flying colors in the academic courses, but barely passed in anything else. That made me automatically qualified to be a Systemator, so I participated in numerous battles repairing transports while being bombarded by enemy fire. I’ve had to defend myself with my wrench on more than one occasion.”
He patted the said tool strung to his belt. It looked to be a high-quality chrome tool. “I was asked to come on this mission, so I’m here being packboy for you folks.”
Kaeden let out a belch from his just finished sandwich.
“Why don’t you tell us about yourself, Kaeden? I’m sure it’ll be interesting.” Holly asked.

General / Input a word!
« on: May 20, 2005, 11:39:39 am »
Let's liven the forum up a bit.

Input a word into the Swiftionary, and the definition will come out as soon as I can update it. (if it's a very difficult word like Hattenschwiler, then I may need a bit of an overview for it.)

Like... I'll start with this:

Minion: (noun) min-ee-in: 1. An underling that is completely under your control. (eg: Broom is comepletely under Swiftman's control, but only to a point) 2. A mid-boss in Twisted metal 2, psx game. 3. A very effective anti-depressent not yet made. It will escalate people's happiness to a point that when they smile, it gives the impression that you'll go for their necks.

See? Just like that. The Swiftionary will answer everything you need answered.

General / WHAT THE BLOODY &)&*

WHY THE HELL CAN'T I LOG IN ON MY FILEPLANET ACCOUNT!!??
I type in my name and password, and it says no such user exists. I get slightly mad, so I try re-creating my account. I fill it all in, with the same name as I had before. If it says no such user exists, then it should work, right?
WRONG!
It says that that username and e-mail are already used.
WTF IS UP WITH THIS?

About myTPH / Missing Starcraft song!
« on: May 13, 2005, 11:11:19 am »
neothe0ne, you missed a song.
In Starcraft, there's 3 in-game songs. You only have two. (I don't know what the terran1 song is. Prolly from Brood War, and it's not the one I'm thinking of..) You have two, yes, but you're missing one more. There's three songs that loop while you're playing as the Terrans.

General / the heck?
« on: May 07, 2005, 04:36:09 pm »
After I defragged my computer, I turned it off and went to bed. (I left it on overnight, actually. it took a long time) So I thought that in the morning I'd restart it so ti could start fresh. But, ti said in that screen the says 'welcome' that my windows profile may be corrupt and it looged me in a temporary profile.

Can anyone tell me what I did wrong and how I can fix it? I don't know it it means anything, but I have 2 hard drives. Should I defrag them both?

Thanks in advance.

I heven't ever de-fragged my computer since I got it, which was around 2002-2003 (December 28 2002, actually) but I don't know how to do it. I scoured control panel and around the start menu, but to no avail. (I have windows XP, so you know.)

Thanks in advance.

General / An extremely forgotten game
« on: May 03, 2005, 12:38:12 pm »
I know this isn't the place to ask for names of games, but I'm desperate. I NEED to find this game.

I remember... back when I was young, very young... (ten years ago, or before) I remember this game that my brother played. I'll try to list some specs of it:

supposed name: The Germinan Project this is a rough guess)
genre: sci-fi RPG/real picture (like night trap)
platform: CD game, most definetly dos
rating: definetly before the making of ESRB, but it wasn't a kids game, for sure
Point of view: First person

The gameplay was different from most other games. Every frame was pre-rendered 3D, but it looked like an actual picture. Each frame was still, and when you turned it went immediatly to another picture (which leads me to believe it wasn't a 3D game, because it would have been simple to rotate the picture if it was true 3D) When you moved forward it went immediatly to another frame, but the object you're moving to looks closer. The game was set in the future, and I think it was in a really big spaceship because I remember scens in a boiler room like thing, but I also remember a ship you could take that led to a dsert planet (maybe? I don't know.)
The main character had a terminator-esque look to him, though you could only see him in the bathroom mirror. I remember being able to do stuff to objects within reach, like flush the toilet, turn on lights, turn on sink, or open the medicine cabinet. The game started in your dormitory/living quarters kinda place, with the bed and bathroom and stuff. Then it goes blank (my memory) and I remember seeing a spaceship dock like thing, where you could go on the ship that went to a desert world (I THINK. I have no definite clue though.) but, one thing that was cool about the game was the robots.
Apparently three robots have been rampaging across the spaceship, killing everyone in sight and disposing of the bodies. There were three in all. They all looked like the big robot from lost in space. One ravagly raced towards you, not looking for anything in the way, one was slower but smarter, and the last one left you alone. One scene I remember (not all of it was still frame. The robots moved.) was the good robot walking along (the footsteps sounded wickedly cool!) and it walks to you in a four way hallway, turns to look at you, then continues on it's way. Another robot I remember was the slow smart one. You were in a boiler room full of heat and steam (like that one place in metal gear solid) and you had to figure out a pattern code to continue through a door. But, the robot was right behind you, making his way slowly towards you. If you failed to fugure the code out, I remember a 1 second beep, then a comic book like image of the robot gripping you at the neck and holding you up real high up. This picture always appeared when he caught up to you. I don't rememebr much on the fast robot, other than you have to fight him in one scene. You finally get a defelctor shield generator and a laser gun, so you can finally fight it. The battle was like a turn based battle, but the robot didn't wait for your attack to attack. If you left the controls, he fired on, but you could fire at any rate you wanted to. And if you had to, I rememebr you could put on a space suit and opent eh airlock after tieing youself down, and the robot would be 'lost in space'.
But, it couldn't have been comepletely on teh space ship. I remember one scene where you were in a city, and if you stood on the tracks long enough, a train would come and smack into you, inducing another second long beep and another comic book like image.

If anyone can give me ANY clues to this game, I will appreciate it so much it'll make your nose bleed. (so to say.) I seem to think that Protoman would know it, since he would've been around the time it came out (1994, I think) or anyone over 20.

Thanks in advance.

About myTPH / Star wars starfighter music
« on: April 19, 2005, 10:55:41 am »
Protoman! I was just listening to Rogue Squadron III, Rebel Strike music, and I remembered that I have the wave files to Star wars Starfighter for PC! The music is basically directly from the movies, but the good thing is that not only do I have the music, I have voices, movie audio, everything! I can convert them and submit them the next time I get access to high speed (like at my school computers)

So, I guess the question is, do you want just the music, or do you want everything? The voices sound a little cut off when you play them in winamp or media player, but I dunno what you want. Shall I do this?

Music / BitTorrent?
« on: April 06, 2005, 11:02:12 am »
I have a question. All the original andother game music is on bittorrent, so I clicked the gunstar heroes torrent link (of course) and I saved the file. But, When I opened it, it had that 'which program do you want to use to open this file?' screen.

What do i use to open bit torrent files or, heck, what do I do period?

Thanks in advance.

About myTPH / Protoman! Read this!

Protoman! Protoman! Portoman! Protoman!
Woops. Portoman? too much sugar.

Anywaywho, I just beat Phantasy Star 4 for Genesis. I looked at a cheat section at a site, and found that a music test can be done. So I did, and voila! Every song is right there! Plus, it has a built in fadeout! This game will certaintly be done by me, and sent to you once I have the means to do so. (either get a highspeed connection or get the money to ship the cd's)

Just so you know! And Contra is steadily being done, but is on hiatus for the moment since PS4 has better music.
Anyone else suggest a good Genesis game that has good music? I'll rip the songs and put them on the site.

When you did the psx games, did you record them directly or just use a program to rip the songs off it? If you used a ripping program, I'd love to see it.

General / protoman fanfic
« on: March 08, 2005, 06:25:58 pm »
This here's a fanfic I wrote, based on Protoman (the character, not the tph guy.) and I'd like to know what you guys think. It's not completed. I have three chapters done, and this is only the first.

         A Case of the Blues

Part 1 Unknown diagnosis

   "Protoman, can you help me?"
   Nothing.
   "Protoman!"
   Still no response.
   "Can you hear me? Hello..."
Dr. Light waved his hand in front of Protoman's face, waking him from his stupor.
"Sorry, doc. Kinda zoned out for a second there. What'd you say?"
"Never mind. I'll just get Megaman to help." He took a few steps towards the living quarters, but turned to Protoman again. "You've been like this a lot lately. Is something bothering you?"
"No. I just need more sleep."
"If you say so." Dr. Light exited, leaving Protoman to his thoughts.
Was there something wrong with him? Was he having a mid-life crisis? He didn't know. Maybe he'd ask Megaman what it might be...
Making up his mind, he stood and tried to find Roll. Maybe she could help.
Protoman was strolling along in the hallway when a flying, red projectile came streaking towards him with a loud roar. Thinking ahead, Protoman pulled out his shield and blocked the object unflinchingly.
"Ouch... Sorry, Protoman. Just trying out this new upgrade that Dr. Light put on my rush suit." The injured Megaman said to his elder brother.
"Just watch where you're going next time. Don't fly in the hallway, either. Only in the lab or training deck."
   "But..."
"But nothing. If I catch wreaking havoc in the living quarters again, I'll personally beat you with a 2x4. Now detach from Rush and do something non-destructive for a change."
   "But..."
   "You heard me. Go!"
Megaman stomped off towards the lab, sulking.
That guy's gonna get us all killed one of these days. And to think we trusted him to save the world nine times now. Did Dr. Light make him like that on purpose?
Giving up on trying to find reason in Megaman's asinine behavior, he continued to the kitchen, where Roll spent most of her time. As expected, she was cooking some instant noodles for Dr. Light's lunch. It was one of the few things that Dr. Light liked to eat that wasn't high in fat. It was easy to keep his weight with Roll around, since she could calculate the cholesterol in foods with unparalleled accuracy, and make a food calendar that allowed a certain amount of fat but still allow a once-a-week treat of Dr. Light's favorite food.
"Hi, Protoman. Are you hungry? I got some noodles cooking. I could make some soup if you'd like, or if you'd like some ice cream..."
   "Roll! I'm not hungry."
   "Oh. Ok."
You might wonder why robots would need to eat. Instead of using a mechanical generator or solar power to generate  electricity, they use the chemical energy from food that humans eat and use it like fuel to power them. Alcohol works so well that they move at an accelerated rate, but it messes with their artificial intelligence program. Usually it's used like a stim pack for military robots.
"I came to ask of your advice, Roll."
   "Shoot."
"Lately, I've been feeling off. I get sidetracked, I lose focus, and I can't think on one subject for more than a few seconds. Dr. Light scanned my system, but didn't find anything wrong. What could it be that isn't a bug or a glitch?"
She mulled this for a second. "Could you describe this feeling of being 'off' in more detail?"
"I feel..." How to word this? "I feel like there's something missing. Like there's a chunk of me isn't there... Or something like that. I can't put it in words very well."
She shrugged. "I'm not a shrink, so I can't think of what could help you."
Protoman closed his eyes in disappointment, though Roll couldn't see it because of his sunglasses. "Thanks anyways, Roll. Maybe I'll feel better with some TV."
"Dr. Light feels better when he has some food. Wanna have some?"
He waved his arm. "I've tried that already."
He turned the TV on and started to surf. Something funny might cheer him up, but Will & Grace just didn't seem to be fitting somehow. It was amazing that after nearly thirty years the show was still going.
An action packed movie used to be exciting, but now it was such a bore.
A drama usually made him feel better, knowing that other people were in worse straights, but now it didn't feel like that. He felt like the most unhappy thing on the planet.
   "Hey, Protoman! Check this out!"
Hmm... Megaman always seems to be happy. Maybe I'll try doing what he does.
"If I stick this straw up my nose far enough, I sneeze. Watch!"
Megaman hastily stuck a thin straw up his nostril until it was projectiled out with a particularly voracious sneeze.
Maybe not. Perhaps it's because I haven't beaten anything with a metal object in a while.
"Hey, Megaman. Go to the lab and fetch me the biggest pipe you can find."
   "Sure thing!"
The simple minded robot dashed out and returned in a few seconds with a long, heavy steel beam.
"It's not a pipe, but will it do?"
"Perfect. Now, hand it over and turn around."
   "Ok.
   "Ow!"
"Dr. Light! Megaman fell down again." Protoman yelled and threw the metal out the window.
The good doctor walked in. "Again? I don't understand how this could happen. His balance program is in perfect condition. And how could falling down make the back of his head cave in like this?"
Protoman had already jumped out the window.
Landing gracefully, he began to think.
Beating Megaman to a pile of scrap always made him feel better, but not this time. It still left him feeling dead inside. It gave him a good chuckle, however.
Then another idea came to Protoman's head.
Maybe if I explore the town? Perhaps I'm tired of that stuffy old lab. I probably need a change of pace.
He began on his way, heading for the downtown area.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the country...

Wily was excited. Finally, he had a plan that wouldn't fail. And, for once, he had a backup plan to go with it, in case it didn't work. All he needed was the arrival of some news.
The door opened, and his lackey Bass came in, looking smug.
   "How'd the plan go, Forte?"
"Don't call me that. And so you know, it worked perfectly. Can I go kill him now?"
"Patience. That will come. Did you do the other thing I needed?"
"Yes, for the last time. Why would I be here if I wasn't done?"
"Perfect! But if it doesn't work, you know what to do."
"Yes, yes. Your plans will work, and I'll be rid of that little blue turd once and for all!"
