Music / UPDATE [2005.05.16]

pursue the ideal

Just a quick note ... to say that I've posted Mega Man Zero 1-4 and Mega Man Network Transmission, as well as two special remix albums in the Original Series area. Note that the Zero and Battle Network series are available today along with the Original, Game Boy and Legends series music, because today was the clearest day as far as bandwidth was concerned. I realize that it makes the most sense to put Zero with X, but it did not make any sense in terms of bandwidth use, because X is always the worst day for bandwidth use (even worse than all the Other Games combined!).

I decided that, because I'll be out of town for the next week (21st birthday woo), I should post the Mega Man stuff contributed by neothe0ne first, and the other stuff later. If you're impatient, you can always just get it out of his directory!

Until next time ...

against the current

So much music ... so little time!

Well, we'd better find some more, because this update's eight games in girth!

From yours truly are three Sonic games: Sonic R, Sonic 3D Blast (Saturn) and Sonic CD (English). Someone requested the (I feel) slightly inferior Spencer Nilsen Sonic CD business that reportedly held up the American release of the game for months, and I while I had my Sega games out I figured, why not throw in good ol' Spence, too?

Also from "the operator of four" in this update is the fantastic Panzer Dragoon II soundtrack. I actually had to record this one myself, unlike the Sonic games, which were simply ripped from the game discs. So, this one's even more special and enjoyable for me; I hope that it will be for y'all, as well!

Rounding out this whopping list are TimeSplitters, its sequel (called, appropriately enough, TimeSplitters 2), StarCraft and Star Wars: Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike, all compliments of TPH co-conspirator neothe0ne. Many of them were indeed recorded by him – and as I know all too well, that's no five-minute job!

Until next time ...

shoulder to shoulder
back to back

"Just add 'X'!" and you have today's update ... by which I mean that yesterday's update, Mega Man 7 and Mega Man 8, has become today's update, Mega Man X7 and Mega Man X8!

Now, I didn't rip these tracks myself, so I can't be responsible for their quality, but especially in the case of X7, I'd say that they are more than worthy of finding a home here at TPH. Enjoy!

Until next time ...

this girl tryina trip and i ain't havin that

SURPRISE!!!

Just when you thought it was safe to put away your MP3-player ...

Enter bmf54123: the ROM-hacker - his discovery of a lost Sound Test menu in Mega Man 7 (as seen in my avatar) shocked and thrilled me - for the very first time, MM7's music could be heard without sound effects and without being a slave to story scenes. Our very own TPH Forum-Mod Bladegash brought us the rest of the way by converting the ROM modification to the Game Genie code:

D0D4-8DDF
(Try it out yourself on your copy of Mega Man 7, and also visit bmf54123's site while you're at it!)

I am therefore extremely proud to introduce to you today the only complete, original copy of Mega Man 7's music in the world ... right here on TPH! Enjoy!!

and ...

Not to be outdone by its prequel ... Mega Man 8 is also premiering today as a rerecorded, remastered and otherwise rejuvenated soundtrack! Complete with fadeouts and out-of-this-world quality, Mega Man 8 (Saturn version) is available right now ... well, you know the drill! Enjoy!!

Until next time ...

c'est trop tard

First of all, let me get this out of the way:

Gunstar Heroes pwns you all.[/i]

Do not miss out on its music, even if you have never played the game before. It is simply divine, especially when you consider what the composer was working with. I cannot tell you how proud I am to host the Internet's only legitimate copy of this music.

...

With that said, some other "Other Games" are joining our favorite hardware-bending, mind-blowing Contra clone from 1993 in this update.

This includes music from the Final Fantasy series, remixed. Compliments of TPH co-conspirator neothe0ne, TPH now features the first and second Final Fantasy: The Black Mages albums. My good buddy i don't really know him Kenichiro Fukui (I know him from Einhänder) is on there, so check them out and make good ol' Fukuisan proud!

A third remix album, Dracula Battle: Perfect Selection, also compliments of neothe0ne, has been added. Speaking of, I've got to get my hands on Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow ... I hear the music from that game in my sleep ...

I'll round out this update with g00f tr00p (Haxor, "Goof Troop"). Our biggest contributor, neothe0ne, seems to think that this game's music warrants inclusion here on TPH, and after taking a few minutes (just over sixteen, to be exact) to listen to it, I have to agree. More retro SNESSY GOODNESS heading your way!

Check out all of today's new albums in the Other Games Music section, but remember - due to bandwidth constraints, this stuff will only be available every third day after today, so get out there and download like there's no tomorrow (cuz there ain't!).

Music / Music Rotation
« on: April 02, 2005, 12:38:59 am »
Hey everyone,

Due to the massive influx of awesome new music (woot!), I'm going to have to implement a rotating scheme to keep the server from exploding and nuking Houston (and my wallet). It was already going over its bandwidth allowance every month, and I really couldn't sustain that any longer anyway. So, if you missed what you were looking for, please just come back tomorrow or the next day and it'll be back up.

Thanks for your understanding.

btw: if you have no idea what I'm talking about, check out the Music section.

so i just, ahem, acquired this r.e.m. song "all the right friends" because bladegash told me it sounds like a cover of elec man's theme, and guess what, it does. it's pretty creepy.

someone emailed me a while back to say that neon tiger's stage sounds like a guns'n'roses song called my michelle ... but i haven't found the time to confirm this. is it true?

and what other similarities have you noticed?

i will keep this fire burning

Seven years later, all the Game Boy games' music is finally available!

That's right ... it took me seven years to record all of it (I bought the games used in 1998), but last week, record all of it I finally did. (I even redid the first two games so that they would match!) Check them out now!

Just watch out for MMII ... that game has issues.

In other news, TPH contributor neothe0ne has graciously agreed to share his fantastic-quality recording of Super Smash Brothers Melee with us. Personally, I think this game is great ... and its music may be even greater! Go! Now!

More content coming very soon ... probably what I wasn't able to finish this week. Sorry about that!

edit: Oops! I forgot to mention that TPH Mega Man Radio is now fully up to date with all of the Mega Man music on the site, and I must say, it's quite an improvement. Check it out now!

beautiful, powerful, unstoppable

TPH in:
"Finishing What We Started!"

Boy was I ever embarrassed when loyal TPH forumgoer Herb  offered to upload Sonic 1-3 to TPH. I started composing a reply, letting him know that they were already up in the Other Games section – had been for years – when I decided to check ... just to make sure.

Well, as everyone except me was already aware, they weren't there.

Now they are. Enjoy!!

Let's just forget this ever happened, shall we? Forgetting to update with something for almost two years is reeeeeally embarrassing.

New versions of Mega Man X5 and Mega Man X6 have also arrived with this update. This time, the special thanks go to loyal TPH forumgoer neothe0ne. He carefully ripped, edited and encoded these tracks so that they only include two repeats of the music and a fadeout - just like the rest of the recent additions to TPH. Redoing these two games should save me a ton of bandwidth, enabling me to update again very soon with a ton more great stuff.

Stay tuned ...

the sound of the underground

TPH Presents: Mega Man: The Wily Wars!

Coming at you from 1994 is the elusive, Sega Channel exclusive Mega Man "All Stars" game. Known as Rockman Megaworld in Japan and released in English only in the PAL territories, Mega Man: The Wily Wars became something of a collector's item after its run on the Sega Channel here in the US. TPH co-conspirators Rachel Moore and MugenMidget contributed $70 of the $100 total cost (plus shipping) of this baby, but it was worth every penny. As always, TPH is all about the real deal. These tracks are 100% legitimate - recorded from real hardware. If you've never heard the remixes from Wily Wars before, do yourself a favor and check them out right now.

On a more personal note, Mega Man: The Wily Wars holds a special place in my heart because, yes, it was the first Mega Man game yours truly ever played. A devout Sega fanatic at the time, I would have never dreamed I would fall so in love with the music and the gameplay of a franchise found almost exclusively on the game systems of the competitor. Nintendo notwithstanding, I knew I had to share Mega Man music with the entire world, and so I began to buy game after game and system after system, preparing for the day when I could distribute the music to more people than just those living within earshot of my house. Finally, on 2 August, 1996, the website before you began, and it will never stop.

Also included in this update is the Rockman Theme Song Collection. This album (bought in Japan) has most of the vocal music used in Rockman games of the past couple years. My favorite is One More Chance from Yukie Nakama (Rockman X4's Ending) - I was obsessed with this track the first time I heard it in 1998, and I'm still obsessed with it today. Check it out!

EDIT: I added all of the new tracks to TPH Mega Man Radio. This includes the Mega Man tracks from the previous update as well!

Music / UPDATE [2005.02.02]
« on: February 02, 2005, 11:59:42 pm »
the beat of the drum goes round and around

TPH has been updated for the first time in over a year!

Check out the new Rockman, Rockman 2, Rockman 3 and Rockman 5 Complete Works soundtracks! Rockman Complete Works was a Japanese re-release of the original six NES Mega Man games for the PlayStation (on individual discs) in 1999 - with extras! The first three games had a handful of remixed tracks included with them (usually coming from the Rockman: The Power Battle and Rockman 2: The Power Fighter arcade games), while the latter three games had completely remixed soundtracks! Unfortunately, I was only able to procure the above four Rockman Complete Works discs while I was in Japan, but I promise I will work to obtain 4 and 6 as soon as I can!

Also new in this update are the soundtracks from the first six NES Mega Man games - I was able to buy for myself the infamous Japanese release of the first six games' music recorded from authentic hardware - and the quality of these tracks should be noticeably better as a result. Yes, I offered the exact same tracks from the same Japanese release before today, but the quality was unsatisfactory, as those versions had been encoded by someone other than myself. At TPH, I value teamwork - just not when someone besides myself is on the team. Thus, I recommend you download (or download again, if you have already) the soundtracks from the first six NES Mega Man games immediately!

Finally, I added two great soundtracks to the Other Games page: Metroid Prime and Metroid Fusion! These games, released in 2002, represent the "Double Sequel" to Super Metroid (already featured here on TPH). Prime's soundtrack was composed by Kenji Yamamoto while Fusion's soundtrack was composed by Minako Hamano - the same two composers who produced Super Metroid's music! (That must be why they're so good!)

Even more is coming very soon - so keep checking back!

:/

if you haven't heard the music from this game, let me just say, it is phenomenal. the game also holds a special place in my heart, because this was the first mega man game i played (in 1995) ...

maybe next time, i guess.

btw, if people want to patrol the ebays (the united kingdom and australia are probably best) and post wily wars auctions here, that would be great (and you would get all the music for download here, too! ;)
