You'll need a chat client such as mIRC, Trillian, or HydraIRC
I reccomend mIRC or Trillian for beginers, but HydraIRC is a lot better than both of those.

And where, Lazlo, could one get Trillian? (it sounds coolest, so I'll use it, plus it's named after a character from Hitchhiker's guide to the Galaxy XD)

That's how I found it. Trillian's a little harder to use for just IRC than mIRC is. That's because Trillian is also usefull for things like AIM MSN and Y!M
