General / Everybody get AIM
« on: September 10, 2005, 12:04:14 pm »
I have thouroughly lost all affiliation with other IM programs. AIM is the only one that consisantly works, even if I update it. All of you using Yahoo and MSN, please, uninstall them, and tell all of your friends to go over to AIM. It may not be as fancy as MSN or Y!M, but at least it works for everyone.

I can't believe I'm supporting AOL... But it's the only one that works.

So, last night I'm sitting in the break room with two new employees. I'm eating my meal, one of them is just sitting there, and the other's eating some beans or something. The guy who's just sitting there gets a phone call, and talks for a while, then he hangs up, the other guy says, "Man, you have just impressed the hell out of me."

"Oh, how'd I do that?" Said Phoney McGetsCalls.

"I have nobody to call me, I just got my phone for emergancies." We all laugh for a while, then go back to silence. After awhile, the phone guy gets another call, and walks out of the break room, talking about girlfriends and football and such. The other dude turns to me and says, "Man, that ain't cool. All I've got to look forward to is video games and sexy posters."

"Dude, don't worry about it," I say, "I don't even have the sexy posters."

We laugh for a minute, and he says, "Yeah, I don't either, I just threw that in there."

General Games / CURSE YOU SEGA SATURN! CUUURSSEEE YYYOOOOUUUU!!!!
« on: September 09, 2005, 01:49:08 pm »
Anyone remember the Saturn? Yeah. Fun console. I owned one years ago, but my parents threw it out, along with all my games. But, due to accidently seeing something about NiGHTS Into Dreams the other day, I was determined to play that game again. So I set out on a search for an ISO (like a ROM for CD games, if ya don't know). That search was.. hard, to say the least. But, at least there was an ISO (unlike F-Zero X Expansion Kit) and I downloaded it. Yay. So now I was off to find an emulator. Zophar'd. Grah! It appears that no one is working on making Saturn emulators that actually work. Most of them will only read CD headers, and the one that doesn't will only play games off the actual CD. Why can't Saturn emulation be easy?

As for me, a friend went over to hang out at Planet Mega Man (worst forum ever), but some good came out of it, he saw a link for a site that had the old Mega Man cartoons. So a bunch of us came over and leeched the movies and left. But that little link to the forum was hanging out at the bottom of the page, so I clicked it and here I am, 2000+ posts later and I still haven't seen every episode of that damned cartoon!

Hey, remember those episodes of Dexter's Lab that ran short, so to make them longer, they added little jokes in between episodes? Does anybody remember how that one joke went about the hydroxolion?

It was something like, "So, a professor and his assistant are mixing negatively charged (somethins) with positivly charged hydroxolions, when the assistan asks, 'Professor, what if (I don't remember how this part went)?' And the professor responds, 'That's no hydroxolion, that's my wife!'"

Anyway, if anyone could refresh my memory on how that joke went, I'd appriciate it, because that was an awesome pun.

General / Zelda No More?
« on: September 06, 2005, 01:42:33 am »
Quote from: "Lars"
Shigeru Miyamoto has been featured in a radio interview in Japan, and his statements could bring both excitement and concern for all Zelda fans.

According to the transcript from the radio interview, Shigeru Miyamoto stated that Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess will be the end of an era for the Zelda series:

" This will be, without a doubt, the last Zelda game as you know it in its present form. "

After that he declined to elaborate any further on how the series would change in the future, but instead went on to talk about the pure exellency of of the upcoming Twilight Princess:

" Our goal was to make the best Zelda game ever. The most rich, satisfying and [melancholic]. I worked on it personally, moreso than Wind Waker. I haven't invested as much into any game as I have this one. "

" We've really improved it in just a few months. Everything's coming together, much quicker. We may have some last minute ideas. "

Of course we're all looking forward to Twilight Princess, but needless to say these quotes bring up both worries and concern for Zelda fans, but most likely the change in the series will be heavily related to the "revolutionizing" aspects of Nintendo's next console, the Revolution.

Okay guys, what do you think this means? Could Zelda be no more? Personally, I don't think so, the series is too much of a cash-cow for Nintey to just ditch, but what do you think it means?

When the touch screen was first announced for DS, my thoughts instantly turned to Advance Wars. Oh, what would they be able to do to a strategy game with touch controls? Well, Advance Wars: Dual Strike, answered that, and it didnt' make me wait long to do it.

Aside from having an oh-so-clever name, AW:DS has a lot of good humor in it, easily visible right from the get-go. Things like your commanding officer yelling out, "Go get the plates, cuz you just got served!" Made me love this game after only one battle. It's the little things, like "Watch who you're talking to, you're the one who just got owned!" that make you actually want to read the inane dribble they shoot at you as you learn the game.

The controls are pretty simple, and if you've played any other Advance Wars game, you're ready to go with this one. Of course, the game lets you use either the touch screen or the buttons, and at times it's smart to just keep switching between the two.

Oh, by the way, remember how mad you were in Black Hole Rising when you first saw Nell, and how she wasn't hot anymore? Well, they didn't fix that this time. However, Nell only appears once in the game! Now we get to hang out with Nell's younger, sexier sister, Rachel! Not only that, but we don't have to deal with Andy any more! I just had to point those things out...

Anyway, the graphics in this aren't much better than the other games in the series. It uses the same sprites for most things, but this time the backgrounds are 3D (some are actually Mode7, I believe) and everything looks crisper on the DS screen for some reason. If you were hoping for a leap in graphics for the Advance Wars saga, guess you'd better wait for Batallion Wars. I'd give 'em 6 Md Tanks out of ten.

The music in this is really cool, nothing to rock out to, but it gives the game a good feel. The DS' speakers are much better than the GBA's. The sound effects aren't bad either. I love hearing units explode when you defeat someone!

As for the story... Eeh, I haven't played a whole lot of the game, but if this is like any of Nintendo's games, it will only be enough to keep me interested. So, Black Hole army has come back from somewhere (Poo on Nintendo Power ruining the supprise for me. Damn zombies)

Where's the mic?! This is actually the first DS game that I've played that doesn't use the mic! And that's not really a bad thing, if you ask me. I hate blowing into that thing!

So I wake up today to my mom asking me if I had to be in at 8:00. "Yeah, mom, eight. What time is it now?" 8:30. Wow. Apparently I had completely slept through my alarm that went off 2 hours ago. I could tell today was going to be great.

So, I rush downstairs to grab the laundry, but only to find out my mom decided to just not do any of my clothes. Now don't get me wrong, I'm a big boy and I can do my own laundry, but for the past 17 years my mom's been doing such a good job at it, and she gets pissed when I do only my clothes. "Mom... do I have any clothes?" My mom, half asleep, told me to go grab what was in the den. "No mom, there are no clothes down there." This wasn't true, there was a pair of jeans and a t-shirt, but nothing I could wear to work. So we go through a whole ordeal where she gets angry at me, because she didn't do my laundry, and didn't even have the curtesy to tell me. I really wouldn't mind doing it! That is, if I knew I had to. So now, here I am, an hour and a half late for work, sitting at the computer in my skivvies (I know this has all the ladies melting, but I was actually wearing pants) waiting for the washer. Grah, I should have known better than to rely on my mom...

I guess instead of blaming my mom I should blame Pirate Cortez. Yeah, that works. Wow. That was a terrible story!
