Because, when Thanksgiving started, the turkey's eggs kept smashing, so, the turkeys devised a way to keep thier eggs from shattering. Thus, the spirit of skinning live pigs on Thanksgiving eve began. This tradition has been dropped from human celebrations, but I hear the English still do it.
